hi there. i am new here. i have a 3 month baby who has moderate eczema, but the worst is on his face and we can't stop him from scratching his face. tried several scratch mittens which causes worse damage than his bare hands. just wondering if anyone knows where i can get some really, really soft mitts that actually works and can protect his face rather than peel his skin off as baby skin are so delicate. thanks a lot.

I have just found eczema voice and I am really suprised that no one has discovered Scratchtites. This is a fantastic garment which stops babies - large children being able to scratch. Unfortunately the company has had to close down due to credit crunch. I am devastated and have bought up bigger sizes for the future.

Ok I have a son with eczema & I have created a pair of mitten/sleeves that work great. He tries to etch but it doesn't let him scratch the skin off. They are made of 100% cotton. He wears them in the bath and they are easy to wash. Socks didn't work cause he could rip those babies off in seconds. E-mail me if you are interested in a pair or 2. I can send you picts too. twinklewomen@yahoo.com

Hi Jools,
I have just tried to look at that website and it does not seem to work. Please can you check it as I would really like to have a look.

just thought i'd get back... I found the web site I was looking for its called itchykidclothing.co.uk.
not sure how I found it but it doesn't matter!
can highly recommend the gloves, much better than the high street ones.
we are soon to be on our second pair!

Is it healthyhome.co.uk or healthyhouse.co.uk. I think it is one of those?. They certainly do some sort of mittens

We bought some scratch mittens on the web from a
small newish site that was highlighted on the newsletter some time ago.
My little son has worn and worn them and they really need replacing. Problem is I can't remember the web site name and and the details have washed off the label! can anyone help?
I seem to remember the site being a husband and wife team in liverpool area.
The gloves are a white farmyard print with velcro strip and snap studs, ring any bells to anyone?
Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site and have just been reading through some of the messages - it's nice to see I'm not the only mum with some of these problems. My daughter who is 4 has severe eczema and we've suffered terribly with it since she was 3 months old I am so lucky to have an understanding GP and Nursery teachers at her school.
Regarding "gloves" we use the ones available from www.healthy-house.co.uk they are brilliant they are available in packs of 1 or 5 I find the stitched cotton ones better and they are available in knitted cotton too, They wash really well and last for ages (the ones we have at the moment we have had now for 9 months so economical too) my daughter uses them in school for painting etc helping around the house with me and just generally when she is very itchy.
Also the tubifast Garments are brilliant they are available from your GP and although they may cost more initially to prescribe than the bandages they are more economical in the long run you only need one or two sets rather than several boxes as they can be washed over and over again up to 30 times if washed correctly I took part in the trials of using these before they became available. (We used to have 30 boxes each of 3 sizes of tubifast every month now we have 2 sets of garments 4 tops and 4 leggings have to wear double like the bandages a wet layer and a dry one) They are available in varying sizes from 6months up to 14 yrs and are like a long sleeved polo neck top leggings and socks (the leggings for the 2yrs and under have attatched feet so don't need socks) and they don't have those awful red, green, blue, yellow, lines on either.
Hope this helps

i have two children with eczema.a consultant suggested to get rid of any curtins and replace with verticle blinds. get rid of carpets and put flooring down.he said get eczema clothes and allergy bedding and use a heppa filter hoover and steam cleaner.
did you know you can get eczema garments free on the nhs tuba fast, you really have to fight for them from your gp.they say they have not been relesed yet ,but our eczema nurse knows different

Hi if your looking for really good eczema sleep suits ,i used Halmax healthcare. they have a site now its , www.halmaxhealthcare.co.uk

There is another company which produces really good cotton sleepsuits (thick for winter and thin for summer) with detachable mittens - so you can put them on your child last thing before going to bed, which is a brilliant idea. We've just bought some for our son. This saves having to bandage hands to stop damaging the skin, as the hands are so cramped in bandages.
The detachable mittens are fabulous they attach at the elbow using popper tape. Also, there is a zip right up the back, rather than buttons. The company is Halmax Healthcare in Cornwall 01503 220006 - I don't think there's a website. When you phone they're really nice people.

Kez,
thanks will give the web site a try, its just at the stage now where we will try anything to stop her getting at her skin.

Hello,
I'm trying to find out where i can get cotton gloves and sleepsuits for my god-daughter aged 3. I tried the cotton comfort website to find it wasn't working. Is the address right??
Also if anyone lives in london around the Enfield area my god-daughters mother could desperatly do with some support and unfortunatly isn't online so cant see this.
Thanks Emma

I use cotton gloves from www.cottoncomfort.co.uk with the ends of the fingers cut off for my daughter (5yrs) who has just started full time school.
She has severe eczema and is v allergic to all nuts especially peanuts. She wears her gloves to school and they give her confidence to touch things plus protect her - she has several spare pairs and just changes them when they get dirty ... saves on washing her hands too much also ! All her friends want them too and they dont have eczema !
Well worth it

My 3 year old is at the "helping mummy" stage. I've found some great childrens gardening gloves at www.birstall.co.uk. Unfortunately I can't find anywhere to buy some childrens protective gloves for washing up and messy play. Anyone any ideas??

This probably won't work at school, but for bathtime at home, we keep Efiah's arm wraps on, just roll them down. It worked well for a good few months - now she can pull them off easily, but if she's in a good mood she doesn't. But her favourite trick is shaking them out until they're really long and using them to smack the water, so I get soaked too! Hence, I now get dressed in my nightie for her bath!!
Hope this helps.

Linzi - have you tried socks on his hands ?

I second this request! My little one also loves to scratch when he is in the bath - simply because all his skin is there, uncovered & it's too tempting for him to resist. Someone out there - please invent "Mini Marigolds"

We are trying to find anywhere that sells small waterproof gloves to allow our daughter to join in with water and sand play at school, she's jsut started. Does any one know of anywhere these can be bought.
