Eczema gives me the shits
| |
Hey everybody
I don't kno where to start! I had eczema sinc birth n it peaked bout the age of 7. It was so bad on the back of my wrists it was hard to bend em cuz of cracks and stiffened skin. Even my knuckles were bad I'd itch so much I'd rub em on the carpet
It eased off to bearable as I grew up with minor break out but now, aged 21 I've had the WORST flare up and its taken over my whole body. I do have it all over normally but the rashes now are so big and itchy its crazy. My stomach n back are covered in light and dark patches I don't even kno my real colour. 2day I caught myself in a shop mirror and can see its affected my face near my ears I wanted to cry, I can't hide it anymore. My skin is hard and flaking especially on my shoulders. Went to the docs he saw me for 30 seconds (no joke) and sent me home with E45. I cried and screamed and THEN he sent out a referral to a dermatologist.
Worst of all its on the back of my hands again. They were practically normal as I haven't seen eczema there in over 10 years! No its hard, crack, light patches everywhere, I'm going to a bbq as we speak n I've bought bandages to cover it... I'm so ashamed of it and people are not very understanding, I can see them staring... This is so stressful
Hope everyone here finds a way to deal with this, if not ease their symptoms... Good luck x

I have been dealing with eczema bad for the last eight years. Recently I've been trying natural remedies. Apple cider vinegar has been working great for me. If your interested in learning more google "I'll have the eczema and a side of vinegar" for my story.
Thanks.

hi
my daughter has atopic eczema since she was 2 mths old she is now 2!
she has light and dark patchs due to the stupid eczema, ruined my babies skin.
she has to watch what she eats, no dairy, wheat, egg, onions, tomotoes, spinach aloud.
i thinkthe steriod has a lot to do with pigmentation!
i just hope it evens out for her, my beutifull baby has it so bad.
i just wish so much.

Dear Asam,
My heart goes out to you. It's hard enough being a teenager let alone having this condition to deal with. Don't give up hope! I think you should go back to your doctor and get a referal to a dermatologist if you're not seeing one already. There are alot of options out there and a dermatologist can best describe something that suites your condition.
Things in the mean time that you can try: don't have hot showers or baths, the cooler the better, moisturise often, better to apply thin layers and moisturer often, every hour or so, rather than trying to lather it on all in one go. See if you can get an antihistamine for the itch, which might help you sleep a bit at night. Watch your diet, try and stay away from too many processed foods, drink lots of water.
Also, have a read of the posts of this site, they might also give you some ideas to try. I know when the eczema is really bad, its very easy to give up, but don't!! It will get better, be kind to yourself, rest and give your body a chance to heal.
I hope you feel better very soon.

If you constantly scratch the same area this can cause it to become discoloured.Think its known as Lichenification.Think this can fade with time.

hello! I am new here....
A couple of years ago, my legs got extremely itchy. It sort of subsided, but i think i itched them so much, it left me with 3 spots that are now stil on my leg. They are red-purplish in color and are the size of 2 dimes and a quarter. I have tried creams (hydroquinone, which i really didnt want to do) and laser. Nothing has helped me. My legs dont itch anymore (or as bad), but now i have these spots on my leg...Anyone else left with the same situation??

Singer, I am exactly the same way. What was once a rash would become a white patch. My doctor told me if I tan it would make no difference to the patches. It's soooo annoying! It's really hot where I live and I have to walk in the sun to get around campus. I can either burn in the sun and make the patches even more noticeable or wear a jacket but then itch and get even more rashes from sweating.
Anyone know how I can even out my skin color!? Thanks!

I'm 13 years old. I was diagnosed with, atopic dermatitis, when I was in 2nd grade. I am of african american descent, so I have fair skin.In the places where I have my eczema, the skin has darkened severly. My mother bought my the hydrocortizone cream. It worked for a couple of days but when I applied it to my skin it had this burning feeling. Is that natural? Every one says I'm just a hypocondriact, but it really hurts. I have eczema in areas that are out in the oepn a lot. Places like my arms, on my knees, and on my stomach. My whole 4th and 5th grade school years i've been trying to cover my arms by wearing long sleave shirts. Even in the summer I was wearing these kind of shirts. I was and still am kind of embarrassed, becasue i thought that I was the only one who had eczema. What exactly is eczema? is it a disease? a rash? i would really like to know. Please help me!

my eczema also went purple after showers and baths so ive now stopped using the hydrocortisone cream as heard steriods can discolour the skin which is what was happening too me its hard though as its the only thing that cleared my eczema totally!!!!
i take evening primrose oil, msm, acidipolius and bio selenium now and im diary and meat free and use soapods too wash my clothes in and also in the dishwasher and from doing all these things im now eczema free! alot of willpower though!! if anyone wants too mail me free feel!

i have light brown coloured skin, i have been using steriod creams for the atopic dermatitis ever since 3 yrs old now i m 17 yrs old. after this forteen years my hands, knee caps, elbows and feet had lost its pigmentation.
now it has patches of white skin(all the pigmentation is lost) and dark brown coloured skin. how do i get and even out coloured skin?

I'm 25 and have only developed eczema in the last couple of years and due to leaving treatment very late, the affected areas have turned a light browny colour. These are areas where flare-ups usually occur. These patches are quite noticeable on the backs of my forearms and triceps so have avoided wearing t-shirts for pretty much for the last two years! Anyone know of any treatments to return the skin colour to normal without resorting to extreme measures like laser treatment?

my eczema turns a purple colour at night help!!!

Hey you guys!
Well, I've read your messages and I really feel for you. My problem is that I've suffered with eczema most of my life, used lots of steroids and my skin is extremely patchy. I'm asian so it's not like it's easy to hide! I've stopped wearing certain clothes years ago and buying new clothes is a bit mission impossible at times.
BUT I read an article in 'The Mail' about a new laser therapy called 'Xtrac' which not only treats changes in pigmentation but eczema too. Yay.
Has anybody else heard about this? Has anybody tried it?
Thinking about making a consultation but scared that it's another empty miracle or the price will be very high.
But if anybody wants more info contact Laser and Cosmetic Clinic in London 020 7385 3922 or www.londonlaser.com
Let me know if this has travelled down the grapevine or anyone has had any success!
Take care
Ash

It's happened to me too. I have this teory it's the mosture in the air when it gets hot that helps people with eczema. I'd sugest not worring too much about the problem showing. IT'll probably clear up. If it doesn't Protopic has always worked for me.

Hi Baum
Thanx for replyin its great to know im not the only 1. It was really hot here yesterday and today and i think thats helpin my skin quite a bit. I was also recommended the sun bed but ive always been abit concerned bout them so am gonna wait for the sun wen i go to Spain this summer hopefully that will enable all my skin to blend colour wise.

Hello Blue,
i also have pale skin (on my arm) where my eczema has been. The only thing i can sugest is (if you don't react too badly to sun) is getting in the sun or on a sun bed as my doctor recommended this to me. Also i use betnovate cream which helps - thing is i'm so used to having eczema on my arm and behind my ears that i forget about it. Don't bother using E45 or anything like that coz they are crappy. Godluck Blue!

Hi everyone!
Im in desperate need of some advice! Due to scratching my skin, i have caused the pigmentation of the skin to change colour. I have really pale skin, so where this has happened its left large areas of darkened skin which is so visable! I basically wondered whether anyone knows of any helpful hints or ways to ease the skin back to its original colour?
Im ashamed to wear cetain clothin that would show this problem and because the weathers gettin warmer it will cause me more probs!
Has any1 had this prob or can offer me any ideas- eg steroid cream, etc?
Its causing me so much upset right now!
Thanks
Love Blue xxx
