Sorry pertaining to previous message. The corret spelling for the cream I use is, Aqueous Cream. This cream is very good for any dermatological condition, and it is very cheap to buy too. All it costs is about £4.00 for a huge 500g tub.

Off and on since I was a child, I have suffered with eczema.First of all my feet an hands were affected, now I get it literally any where at all. I have used Betnovate, Dermovate, and was advised by a Dermatologist, to use Aquas Cream to actually wash in it. I went on holiday with my family in August, and my feet were so badly affected with eczema, they itched all the time, and were really swollen. My Doctor has prescribed, Fucibet cream, and Fluampicil capsules, I am useing my Aquas cream also, but I have a lot of dead skin. Some of the skin seems to be quite thick, and I am having difficulty removing it. my feet are extremely red, sore, and itchy, and I am getting upset because I am unable to sleep properly with the irritation. I would be most grateful for any advise you could give me.

I have Eczema. However, its not dark and rashy and it doesnt itch. I have light spots all over my arms and legs. Do any of you have that kind of Eczema? If so is there anything that I can use to clear it up?? Ive been to a million doctors and none of them can find a cure. My dad says I need to become a vegan but he thinks thats the cure for everything..

Are you sure its genetic? It seems strange to me as I don't believe I had Eczema ever----some dry patches sure, while in high school but they really didn't itch at all.
Now after 35 years I run into trouble when I had kids --my first pregnancy I got PUPPP and it was brutal they say 1 in 250 people get it and it itches 10x poison ivy ( nasty) Then it went away now after --my second child The whole groin area is affected like heat rash, my doctor of course kept focusing on the yeast but canestan and the other topical creams made it worse.
Well then I thought its the perspiration that maybe brings on the itch - instead of cotton underwear which are fine until they get damp when excersizing maybe a lycra/polyester blend started looking around and none of the stores carry them its making me crazy any ideas??

I have eczema that started out when I was about 4 as the result of "painting" myself with red nail polish. It went away for over 30 years and I now get it as the result of sunscreen use. (also probably due to stress because I'm out of work). I notice that it flares up considerably when I've had sunscreen on.
But it only hits the crook of both arms. So it isn't a sunscreen allergy, or else I'd get it everywhere.

Hi i just found out my 8 month old llittle girl has eczema and it is all over her back and front. The doctor has given me cream and bath stuff but no one has told me if there are any foods i should keep her clear of please help.

This is just a warning! I was 20 weeks pregnant when I discovered that the cream I had been using to treat my eczema from birth is supposed to cause birth defects. DO NOT USE HYDROCORTISONE OR OTHER CORTISOIDS IF YOU ARE PREGNANT!

You can get eczema anywhere. It is thought that some eczema is caused by yeast, which thrive in dark damp areas like the groin. I have set out my way of dealing with it in other posts.

Hi all, I don’t suffer from eczema myself but I believe my boy friend does. His rash is in a really embarrassing area. Its in his groin area. He hasn’t seen a doctor yet why I don’t know but I keep telling him that its nothing he can help. My question is can you get eczema in your groin? And why does it look like its going away sometimes but then comes back worse?

Just thought I'd add a little piece! I'm 25, male and have suffered with eczema since birth. Damm parents genes!!
I like most people definately notice that my skin is worse during stressful times, but then just having a flare up can get you more stressed so its sometimes a battle.
Anyway... I cant claim to cure eczema, but I have noticed that by eating bananas my skin has healed. I'm on 1-2 a day now and I'm not giving up! I think its got a lot to do with vitamin defficiency, B6 is often quoted as being good for the skin and they also contain potassium (not sure if thats a factor). If you dont want to spend ages looking for herbs and creams and witch doctors!! then give it a go... its cheap and counts towards your 5 fruit a day - WIN WIN! I'm NOT saying this will cure you, but it may help.
I would love to know how you get on and if bananas help or if you just think I'm plain bananas! Like everyone says - its what works for you. By all means get in touch.
P.S.
As well as this try eating more fish because like someone else said on this message board its really good for the skin (omega oils). My skin definately reacts to the changes in diet. I now try to eat fish at least once a week - just tuna sandwhiches for lunch!! I personally dont think you need to cut things out of your diet. Someone once told me to cut out all dairy products which I did and I never saw a change despite sticking to it vigourously.

Hello, everyone. I've been suffering from eczema for the last few yrs. It felt like my skin was on fire from underneath, which I couldn't put out. Scratching became second nature to me when I slept...I'd wake up finding areas of my body completely raw. Other times my entire pillow would be covered with dead skin, as eczema had spread to my face and scalp. I even lost my eyebrows and some hairline for a while, due to constant scratching. My eyelids at one time were scaly, and my lips also. Eating anything with a bit of salt or spice would inflame my lips. It hurt terribly everywhere.
I have finally gotten it under control. I've discovered there are different ways of doing it. 15 yrs ago i had my first onset when i experienced severe hay fever, which induced an eczema attack on my neck. The skin on my neck was so inflamed and itchy, it felt hot to the touch. I'd go to bed with a frozen towel wrapped around it, but soon the towel would heat up and I had to rinse the towe, and put it in the freezer again. A classmate who was Korean recommended this chinatown doctor. So I went and he prescribed me chinese herbal therapy (brewing the herbs and drinking the broth) and the first evening a small patch of brand new, baby skin appeared. The following days, while continuously drinking the herb broth), the dry, scaly, crusty skin sloughed off with fresh new skin underneath. It cost me $50 for 3 packs of herbs which I finished in 5 days...so although I swear by it, it got very expensive.
The eczema disappeared for a while, but came back in the last few yrs. A co-worker of mine had extra leftover eczema lotion for her son, who no longer had it. So she gave some of it to me to try, and it worked wonderfully. Unfortunately the lotion was prescripted and a concoction done by Kaiser Permanente, which my insurance does not cover. So I only have about 2 oz left of it, and I use it sparingly and only for serious flare ups.
With that under control, I found Dermarest Eczema Lotion and use it for all over, as it is deemed safe. My eczema can appear anywhere on my body, including face or groin area.
To minimize skin reaction, I stayed out of heat, and if I sweat, I try to immediately rinse off or take a quick shower. Sweat on my skin feels like acid. Two months ago, I began an experiment by showering without any soap or even mild shower gels. I simply used a wash cloth to scrub down my entire body under the shower, dry off, and then apply the Eczema lotion. This has helped tremendously, even though the thought of not using soap felt like I wasn't washing myself properly! But I have discovered soap is harsh in removing dirt and produces allergic reaction in me, whereas scrubbing down my skin thoroughly cleanses it and sloughs off the dead skin to make it smoother. My skin has rejuvenated and I have gotten eczema under control at this point. Whew!
I don't know the cure, or if there is a cure. It is also psychosomatic, so stress or an unresolved emotional issue could express itself through your skin, the outer organ. I used to do a lot of laps at the pool, and I've since stopped also due to chlorine exacerbating the condition. Diet plays a part too. I eat flax seed oil with bananas, take cod liver oil every day, multivitamins, put walnuts in my cereal and eat salmon 1x or 2x a week. The omega 3 fatty acids are very essential for eczema sufferers. My skin looks better when I stick to high omega 3 content vs none.
All in all, for me, the proper lotion, elimination of soap and other harsh chemicals (I stopped wearing makeup too), diet, and dealing with stress in a more healthy way, will help. There is really not a single method to contain eczema. Hope this helps!

No, eczema is not contagious. It is hereditary. Sometimes people may not show symptoms for a long time but are susceptible to it and something (like a skin allergy, stress, food allergies) is the trigger and launches a lifetime of outbreaks. The only people you can get eczema (or alopecia aerata, keratosis pilaris, allergies/hayfever, which are all related) are from your parents who PASSED the trait onto you. You cannot get it from another person like a cold.

can you get Eczema from someone else ? or ant other kind that is in that same group?

hello to all my name is jenny and i have eczema, im a practicing emergency room nurse foralmost 3 years now. My eczema started erupting initially after my first three months working as a nurse rashes on my arms are so itchy that eventually due to my scratching breaks and develops blistering and that initial attack brougth my resignation as an OR nurse a week after my rest from work it clears up with out taking any medication. Then once again i applied myself to a nursing position and eventually becomes an ER nurse, few months after i have accpeted the position hand eczema develops and lasted for almost a year then a year later rashes once again develop on my arms and legs was cured after 2 months of taking steroid then 3 months later hand eczema again develops weeping kind and was also relieved by 3 months on steroid given by an allergologist. Since then whenver i started weaning from a once a week steroid intake rashes develop and it has come to a point of having it all over my body right now i have been cleared from steroid but the rashes stills comes after every other month. I still take antihistamine daily and currently still sufferring, planning to leave work once again to relax myself thinking it is probably stress induce due to my work.

Hi,
Just wanted to say how helpful I find these discussion pages and the hints that people provide. I wanted to share some of my experiences, if not to help, then to console. I've always had eczema, but never as bad as it has been in the past two years. It's almost as if the eczema was jumping around my body, and once it had affected many parts individually (e.g. legs), it decided to target the whole of my body, covering me in swollen red, itchy and inflamed patches. People at work noticed my constant scratching, and I was aware that I looked awful. I had hives across my face, and couldn't leave the house without an assortment of creams and anti-histamine tablets. My doctor has been as helpful as could be, but there was only so much steriod ointment I was prepared to use before wanting to try something more long term.
I'd read somewhere that Starflower oil is good for eczema so I started taking that (3 capsules a day - 3000mg). I've also started taking a whole range of vitamins and minerals that are supposed to be good for the skin, i.e. zinc, vitamin B complex, selenium, multivitamin tables, vitamin C (800mg) and a desert spoon of cod-liver oil a day. Despite the expense, I feel as if nothing short of a miracle has been worked upon my skin. The inflamation has gone, I no longer itch like crazy, my skin seems to have a sheen like never before, and physically I feel much better. I've also given up white wine and citrus fruits, following the advice of someone who claimed that the acidity had caused her all kinds of skin problems. I should say that I didn't contact my doctor about taking any of the above, though I probably should have. There again, things couldn't get much worse and I was desperate for something to work.
I also find that 50/50 ointment (white soft paraffin and liquid paraffin) is better for my skin than emollient creams, but it's what works for the individual. It sometimes makes me itchy when it's first applied, but that passes, and I find the grease more softening than the cream.
I hope some of this helps as I know how difficult it can be living with eczema, and trying to cope when it feels as if the problem is neverending. You need understanding people, of course! I only hope that whatever has worked what I feel are wonders for me, will continue to work!! Plus, I hope some of what I've written about will be useful to anyone who reads this message.
Best wishes.

I am a hayfever sufferer for over 20 yrs. Since my birth of my children (youngest aged 3 yrs), I have developed eczema. The worst affect area is my stomach.. they come out in darker unsightly patches and they itch like mad. The other bad area is the right side of my groin.
I feel like a hypocrite... my son has eczema and I keep telling him not to scratch - but I can't stop myself.
Have tried Canestan, Synalar, Hydrocortisone, Aqueous Cream, E45...no joy. Anyone got eczema on their stomach and found an ointment which works ??
