does anyone know if there is any connection between dry eye (lack of tears) and under and around the eye ezcema. Both conditions are driving me crazy - its so uncomfortable and g.p's dont seem to know what to recommend. I do wear daily contact lenses and hope that doesnt make things worse. So any help out there please let me know

The best thing I have found for my eyes is badger balm from boots and emulsifier.

Oilatume and e45 didnt do much for me.

Also you can use nettle tea bags on your eyes. And drinking nettle tea is supposed to help.

Hi there,

I have a similar problem and also have to wear hard contact lenses in the affected eyes due to an eye condition. I've lived with this and eczema for years.
I'd recommend that your mum avoid any eye drops you buy in the chemist, as they all contain preservatives, to which she may well be sensitive. She will need a prescription for preservative-free sodium cromoglycate (instead of Opticrom, which has preservatives in it) from the doctor.
It will reduce the allergy. At the same time, the GP can prescribe steroidal eye drops to use inside the eye. These can only be used short term, as they cause thinning of the cornea and other horrible problems if used long term.
Many of the artificial tears can irritate sensitive eyes.
I only ever use preservative-free Systane. It's not available on prescription, but you can buy it either online from Postoptics or from Black and Lizars opticians.
Check all labels and containers of eye preparations and make sure that they don't have benzalkonium chloride in them.
Gel Tears does, as do many others.
Sounds as though your mum needs to be referred to a better.opthalmologist.

I wouldnt suggest the baby shampoo option ive done this myself and it led to my eyes being sticky and red.
Tell her to splash her eyes with as warm water as she can take and then moisturise, its a complete nightmare i know.
But make sure she completely dries off the water.
Id also suggest Murine eyedrops which you should be able to get from your local chemist.
And im so angry that doctors are not willing to help with eczema sufferes,i wish there was some organistaion out there for more of these things.

try a mild solution of baby shampoo to cleanse the eyes. it is a good help and use a ointment lubricant known as lacrilube every night.

If it is only around her eyes, but not actually on the eyeball itself she can ask her doctor about Cortisporin. I am not sure of the spelling but it is a combination of hydrocortisone and neosporin so it is safer to use around the eye area then hydrocortisone itself, which can cause cataracts and glaucoma. Ask your doctor! It didn't work for my 2yr old son and caused more redness and puffiness, becuase he ended up being allergic to the neosporin in it, but it took the eczema away!

Hi all, Im hoping you can help. My Mum is in her 70's and suffers from Dry eye's, she has false tears to help but in the last few months she has also been told she has eczema in her eyes. She woke this morning unable to open her eyes and is in a real state. Her Doctor just keeps saying he cant do anything more!Do any of you know of drops, eye creams etc... that may eleviate some of this? A long term solution would help but right now a short term one would be a bonus. Thanks
