Here is what worked for me:
SALINE SOLUTION as described above — salt has a septic effect. It tok the swelling down in minutes, my vision was clear, an hour later I even went to Bikram's Hot Yoga and I was fine.
After that I put this cream on my face that I just bought from Shopper's Drugmart: Avene Cicalfate ($28) - Restorative Skin Cream($20). And later on that night I was able to use the Avene Fluid foundation Corrector. I used also from this line the eye soothing cream which has helped me to deal with eczema for the past 6 months when it started. I use their Thermal Water as well. For those of you having a sensitive skin, this line does wonders. Enjoy it!
Now if you wanna take it a step forward without laser and using cortisone here is what you do.
Elemis Fortifying cream — it contains Echinacea used in many creams to treat rosacea and psoriasis, eczema here. And it has a calming and anti inflammatory effect on your skin.
Elemis Absolute Oxygen Boost to prevent you from wrinkling as it has an instant renewal effect on your skin cells ($60). This is the best oxygen cream hands down, many other brands claim they have it, but they just didn't get it right. I do work with Spas and Skin Care products.
I think you can still find them attimetospa.com OR A LOCAL SPA CARRYING Elemis products, but you'll find a better deal on the website.
See the post from Jen:
1) Get a jug and fill it with tap water
2) Get 2 tsp's of salt and mix with the water
3) Apply to the eye area (with your eyes shut)
4) This may sting at first (as the eye area is very sore because of the eczema but it won't after the first few days)
5) Allow the salt-water to penetrate the eye area for at least a min-3 mins
6) Pat dry gently with a towel
Thank you Jen and I hope this helps all of you who have eczema around your eye and face.

Wow, It's a bittersweet feeling to know that there are others that have eczema like I do. I have had it ever since I was a kid and nothing worked until an aunt brought it up to my mom how everyone grew out of thier eczema but I still had it. A few days later my mom started talking to me about my condition, I found out that almost everyone in my family had it and my mom like myself didn't grow out of it like everyone else. Many years later,my mom does not have eczema and NEITHER DO I! No amount of creams, steroids, lotions (even aveeno) or oatmeal baths worked for me and I did not grow out of it. I fought back my eczema.
Now, this way has been proven for years and years for my family and friends I most definatly think anyone should try this. What my mom did was purchase something that people refer to as 'blue' I don't know what it is but you can go into an indian or west indian store and ask for it it comes in squares and is a blue and white wrapping. Next she took some of this and rubbed it onto a juicy lime. Then, she rubbed this on my eczema. The next day my eczema completely changed, It opened up got lighter and I could see it was getting better (the eczema did look alittle sore and the were open cuts) My aunt who is a nurse said that was a good sign so we continued to do this for I think 3 days? once my eczema was all opened up, my mom stopped and I let it heal. DEAR LORD, when It healed up, it was absolutely crazy! my eczema was gone, the skin is light and smooth I have a crease on my arm in the joint where I never had creases because of my eczema! There are no scars trust me if you look at me now you would never been able to tell I had the worst case of eczema that even my doctor couldn't help.
If you are fustrated with your eczema why not try something else? There will be no cost except buying limes. You do not have to buy the blue but I would because it fights bacteria etc., and I also think thats what helped.
If you have any questions please email me.
And no my eczema has not come back one year later (:
*I also used cocoa butter to lighten up the area.
moodie_a@yahoo.com feel free to email me if you have ANY questions. This way truely works!

I have lived with eczema for 30 years now. I have read every study, research, etc etc...and there is no robust conclusion, I can tell you this from expirence...
*Use vaseline it calms the itch and prevents going worst, it helps.
*Quit the hydrocortizone it will return even worst.
*Avoid pets, vaccum as much as you can,
*Try to follow the blood type diet, I found that chicken was terrible for me and my ezcema.
*I discovered that I go better if I apply royal jelly arround the eyes from time to time around the eyes (it hurts)
*Shampoo is key, avoid the cheap ones if you have flare in the scalp use T-Gel 3 times per week
*Be sure you vitamins are in good levels , but try to do it in a natural way.. eating not by pills.
*If it's too bad try to get away 2 or 3 days , change the weather it helps, I prefer dry warm with no dust.
*bust out your self esteem !please!
a Makeup tip : bring attention to your mouth if the problem are the eyes and viceversa.
a collagen mask sometimes helps a little bit

I have suffered eczema around the eyes and the rest of my face for the last 2 years. I have been to private dermatologists but have only been prescribed steroids to clear the flare ups. It has got to the point of flaring up then peeling then flaring up again without clearing. The appearance of my skin was terrible and I could not break the cycle. Anyway I have used Aveeno Cream bought from Sainsburys for 5 days and can see a significant improvement (thanks Splash!). It does sting on flared up eczema for a few seconds only but the cream has softened my skin and the hard skin folds aound my eyes and mouth caused by the eczema. It is early days but I have managed without steroid cream on my face for the last 5 days.
I also wrap Boots zinc oxide plaster tape (2.5cm size)around my finger tips (covering the entire nail) every night night to prevent scratching in my sleep.

Hey I just found this site, so glad I'm not the only person suffering from this. I recently connected my eczema flare-ups to drinking processed apple juice - very strange but I've cut it out and my eczema's got a lot better. Seemingly apple juice can be full of pesticides if it isn't organic. Anyway, I've also been using E45 urea cream which also seems to be helping but not sure how safe it is...thanks for the advice on hydrocortizone by the way, I was using it occasionally but will stop now!! Also any advice on those wrinkles? I am so sick of mine...
Where can you buy Neem oil in the UK?

I have had a severe attack of eczema all over the body for the past 6 months, been to the doctor 5 times, seen five different doctors all of whom have prescribed different things. Now I only have it on and under my eyes. Nothing seems to make any difference , I am totally with you all when you say how depressed it makes you , I can not wear make up at all feel like a leper most of the time and have perfected the art of walking with my head down! Have decided to try wheat free diet and have seen a slight improvement.

I developed eczema in and around my eyes when i was pregnant many yrs ago. Of course i was given hydrocortisone and not told to be careful.Given drops for the 'gritty' eyes. result: panda eyes and wrinkles. I can not use anti wrinkle cream as it just makes my eyes puffy, red and very sore. I can not wear make up ( that's just asking for trouble). I have become soooo fed up with my look, i considered surgery, botox, or anything to tighten the skin, but it is so costly. I even had a spray on tan done proffesionally for a recent wedding. interestingly enough it did not make it worse. But did make my confidence better for the day as it hid it well. In desperation while in a shop i grabbed a tube of JOHNSONS BABY SOOTHING NATURALS INTENSE MOISTURE CREAM. I am dabbing ( not rubbing)this in around the eye and the eyelid (this was very itchy and scaly) I can not believe the difference! puffiness gone, redness gone, wrinkles looking better.I am also drinking ALOT of water every day. what a difference a week makes.

My name's Sue and I've suffered from bad dyshidrotic/pompholyx eczema since I was a toddler (I'm 40 now). But recently, I've just started to get eczema under my eyes, which is really depressing. I used steroid cream for 2 weeks and then stopped because I know how bad it is for the skin. Anyway, at the moment, I'm using a combination of Neem oil for it's anti-inflamatory/anti-bacterial properties (it stinks but it's worth it!). After the neem oil has soaked in, I coat the skin in a New Zealand honey cream - again for it's soothing and anti-bacterial properties and then I finish with a smear of Shea Butter (a good quality 100% shea butter by L'Occitane). The Neem does seem to be taking all the redness and puffiness out of the skin and the shea butter keeps the skin hydrated. Slowly but surely, the skin is getting better. I still look a bit like a panda but at least I don't look like I've been in floods of tears! It's so depressing though - I fully sympathise with everyone on here. Eczema is the pits.

It is now 3 months since I last wrote on here and I have made a discovery through another excema sufferer of a cream called AVEENO DAILY MOISTURISING CREAM. It has been amazing my facial and under eye excema has been totally eridicated!!! I cannot believe it, I have tried, chinese herbs, acupuncture, allergy testing, diet changes, and every possible cream, lotion and potion over the last 30 years. This is a REVELATION. It needs applying morning and night..has a funny texture when dried on the skin but WORKS..REALLY WORKS. It takes about 3 days to see a massive improvement and just gets better and better. I now have seen no excema for 4 weeks and feel sure I have found the answer. TRY IT. I got it from Boots the Chemist .. they also sell it in Tesco and most Drug Stores, it is not expensive 7.99 for Pump container and 5.99 for Tube. Now I just have to find a way to pluck up the courage to see a surgeon re removing the awful wrinkles under my eyes, from years of 'could not car less doctors' prescribing cortisone creams, which thin the skin and although temporarily working on the excema produce years of misery later in life from terribly aging under eye wrinkles. Please report back once you have tried. Hope it works for you too. Splash

to Denise who cut out 4 allergen food groups: I really do believe that my body has to be reacting to food. I'm so inflamed and just started a wheat-free diet. I was thinking about eliminating these food allergens one at a time to see if I had any results. If you avoid all these together, what do you eat on a daily basis?

Everyone, you might want to try Emily Skin Salve. Here is the link: emilyskinsoothers.com
If you have an organic health store around your area, they might carry this product. Here are some suggestions: try washing your bedroom sheets and blanket more often with hot water with a second rinse, if your mattress is real old you might want to consider getting rid of it because dust mites live in there and causes your eczema to get worse, also you might want to pull your carpet and replace it with wood floors or tile as dust mites live in the carpet as well. If your skin is real dry, you might want to buy Fish Oils and cure your body from the inside out. Hope this helps.

Hi fellow eczema sufferers! I have had exczema on my body all my life but like another writer, I got it on my hands and face after being pregnant with twins. I suppose the hormones made things worse. I did find out though why this is happening and doctors will not tell you this. I did an elimination diet and found I only get eczema when I eat gluten (the protein found in wheat, oats, barley) so no more baked goods, pasta and most canned goods (but you can buy wheat free pasta at Trader Joes and Whole Foods) Also, no Casein (the protein found in milk) Fructose is cheap sugar, cane sugar is fine. The problem with the gluten and casein is that the molecules are so big it creates tears on your gut and the bacteria gets out to your bloodstream and your body reacts thus causing the annoying eczema. If you try fasting for even a day you will see a difference. Just try to eat whole foods and completely cut the gluten and fructose and casein and yeast. Some eczema sufferes are also allergic to casein (protein found in milk) and yeast. There are 4 main food allergies. Trust me, this will change your life. Try the elimination diet and let me know how it goes.

Try Nivea in the blue tin, not the tubes as this does irritate my eyes, however the old style Nivea is a life saver for my eyes as well as the wrinkles caused by years of hydrocortisones prescribed by doctors who realy d not care about the long term thinning effect, just concerned with getting you out of their surgeries as quickly as possible!! Shame on you doctors causing so much misery in later years by unsuspecting young women who are suffering this awful problem around the eyes, as if the excema itself is not enough, then you have to deal with the awfully ageing wrinkles!

As a child who sufferred bad under eye excema in the seventies, my mother was prescibed betnovate hydro cortisone creams for me which she applied liberally to stop the dry itching and flakiness under my eyes. Several years of this use has thinned the skin terribly, now as a thirty something year old my eyes look like that of any old woman, and although I have not used this cream in many years the damage is irreversable. I still have the under eye excema which flares up for weeks on end and on this occassion have had it for almost 6 months. It almost makes life unbearable at times, so understand how everyone feels, and it is quite a revelation to find this site, it has helped me so much to realise that so many of you suffer in the same way. I want to have under eye surgery, but wonder if any sufferer has had this done,? Does it completely get rid of these deeply groved lines that age so badly? Has anyone taken advice on this.? As for the excema this is at present worse than I have ever had it, after reading this site, today I shall pay YET ANOTHER visit to the health shop for MORE creams. I intend today to buy this organic Aloe Vera Cream from Holland & Barrett, that everyone seems to be saying helps as well as Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion and Sudocrem. Fingers crossed this might help me a little, will let you know how I get on and when I make an appointment to see an under eye specialist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Argh....Excema!!

I am 24 years old and I am a girl who loves makeup! I have eczema since I was a child and no longer can go to the dermatologist because I no longer have insurance. My eczema usually occurs on my eyes and around my mouth. My eyes have been swollen and itchy for about a month now. It's getting really bad that I am having even lower self-esteem. I try to cover it up with concealer, but it looks worse. I have tried many creams and remedies, but it seems as though my eyes are just getting darker and wrinklier. My skin is so sensitive that when I have an outbreak it swells and burns really bad. I use burts hand salve at night around my eyes, but I'm looking for an eyecream or face cream I can use to hydrate my sensitive skin and won't give me dark circles and wrinkles! I hate my skin =(

Hey, I am 26 and in the exactly same position....used the cream around my eyes and got wrinkles!
Last night I put peppermint tea bags on my eyes and that really helped.
Guna try the vaseline trick and get a new mascara! Thanks for the tip!!

Hello all.
I just came across this site and i'm glad I did!! A few years ago I had eczema really bad. Not so much nowadays until I started a degree - massive stress and lack of sleep/too much coffee has taken it's toll and i've been getting eczema around my eyes. Not so much redness but dry and flaky.
I was warned not to use cortisone but was desperate and guess what - wrinkles. So i'm off that now. Can anyone tell me if the wrinkles will go away eventually (i mean, i;m being realistic - but at only 25 i should have another few years wrinkle free)
I have found that putting vaseline on at night and a few times during the day works wonders. Also I sleep in a cool gel eye mask (you can buy them from body shop or similar)
I recently had a pretty bad allergic reaction to some mascara. Check sell by dates on your make up girls - sometimes old stuff can be full of germs!
I'm hoping it will go away once i am settled at uni but until then I am drinking loads of water and GREEN TEA to keep it at bay.

Hi all. I have just read all of these cases and identify with everyone. I have been so exasperated with my eczema recently that I just sat down and googled the words "eczema desperate" which brought me to this site.
I am 37 and have had eczema all my life. It used to just be on bits of my body, which I could handle with eumovate. since I had my 2 children who are now 5 and 6, I have had severe eczema on my hands, which I have just accepted. But in the last 2 years, I have had it on my face and around my eyes. I recently tried a very expensive mushroom organic based cream by Origins and had a terrible reaction to it. It is definitely stress led, and every time I look in the mirror it stresses me out even more. I am anglo indian and my skin has now turned patchy and dark. I have just spent loads of money on foundation as I am a college lecturer and need to face students every day.
It is so nice to know there are other people out there who are also suffering like me, and not just the people that stare (including friends) and just say useful things like "OMG look at your skin its awful". Uh, ya think!!!!!!!!
So I have just ordered a load of burts beez stuff and Derma Cream online. Thanks so much fellow reptile skin sufferers...xx

Hi, when I found all these suggestions last night I immediately tried the salt water solution on the eczema under my eyes and on my eye lid. Although the redness has definately gone a little I have woken up with one eye slightly swollen and puffy. Did anyone else experience this? Should I stop or keep with it?

I've suffered from terrible eczema for the past several years around my eyes. I believe this came about because I developed anaphylaxis and asthma. My doctor didn't really offer any solution for my eczema except allergy pills and hydrocortisone cream. Unfortuntely, the hydrocortisone caused the skin around my eyes to become very thin and look old. For some time I've been searching for an eye cream that wouldn't agitate my eczema or my sensitive skin but had absolutely no luck. FINALLY, I did find a product that works very well for me. The brand is Avalon Organics and the product is the Lavender Revitalizing Eye Gel. I've had great results with it and hope it continues to work. It has decreased the puffiness and redness around my eyes and I'm noticing a lessening in lines and wrinkles. Additionally, my eczema doesn't flare up when I use the gel, which is fantastic! I also use the Avalon Organics Vitamin C Hydrating Cleansing Milk, which is great if you have dry skin. Though the Vitamin C Cleansing Milk has worked well for me, I'm going to switch over and try the Lavender Facial Cleansing Gel next because I've had success with the eye cream from the same line. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hey!
You dont know how happy i am to find you guys!
I have been suffering from exzema since i was just a kid. Im 19 now, at college and have the annoying under eye wrinkles. The problem knocks my self-esteem and confidence loadz.
Due to the whole exzema, asthma, hayfever thing i have been on medication for like forever.
I am positive i have tried every cream that exists.
My mum bought me a load of eye creams and none of them help either. One of them worked temperarily then just stopped and theyre back to normal.
i agree sometimes enough sleep, a healthy diet and excercise seem to make them a little better.
but like some of you said i think we are stuck with them. at least till some new technology comes out that costs alot less than botox.
in the meantime - good to know i am not alone.
we're in this together..

Hello,
Nice to find the website and know that other people have the same problems and concerns as me regarding eczema around the eyes. I had eczema as a child, got rid of it for probably over 20 years and then all of a sudden got it back again. You wonder what on earth has made it come back and no one seems to be able to answer. Dr’s are useless and just fob you off with steroid creams which only temporarily stop the itching but don’t get to the root cause. Surely there must be a reason why your immune system decides to overreact like this all of a sudden and I want to know why. The Dr’s don’t care though and make you feel pathetic for asking as there are obviously far worse things but it makes you feel scabby and horrible as the eyes are the windows to the soul which we communicate with!!
I’m 36 now and have had this problem for over 2 years. Just when I think it’s gone it comes back again and I can’t seem to find the trigger. My skin reacts to everything except Dermalogica barrier repair which is amazing but still the eczema comes back. Neals yard calendula cream is also good as I don’t react to it but it doesn’t stop the attacks which can come at any time. I think I need to commit to writing a diary of everything I eat and put on my body to see if I can find a common cause but I it could be one of a million things and take ages to find. I guess it’s a complex problem and there isn’t a one size fits all solution for us but a process of trial and error. It’s just frustrating because in the periods that I’ve stopped getting it I have thought that I’ve found the solution and carried on but it comes back. I think biological powder aggravates me or possibly hair products as it seems to occur after I have slept so is it happening on the pillow? I don’t know….it’s so frustrating!!
Anyway, I will try the aloe vera now to see if that helps as I haven’t used this. I do however, feel that all of these solutions are just helping to alleviate the problem rather than getting to the root cause. Has anyone else found a change in diet helps like no dairy or wheat? I guess we all have to be vigilant and find our own triggers and use these tips until we find them.
Thanks very much xx

I have had eczema for several years now. Previously all over my body, now restricted to mainly my eyes. From my personal experience, after years of trying all different types of prescription and non-prescription products, the only solution to actually treat the problem and not just suppress it is maintaining a healthy diet.
A little over a year ago, I started eating a few handfuls of raw veggies and several pieces of fruit everyday and limiting my intake of greasy and fatty foods and it has decreased the amount of eczema around my eyes by about 90%
As for the wrinkles left behind from almost 3 years of steroid use, that is still a problem I'm trying to face. Keeping the area hydrated with vitamin E oil seems to help a little and I plan to try using a retinol cream to stimulate cell turnover. Has anyone used retin-A around their eyes to decrease wrinkles?? I've heard that can help but I also heard it causes burning, redness, and pealing which seems unappealing considering that it sounds pretty much like eczema symptoms haha

Hi everyone,
I have been using ELIDEL CREAM 1% for the last 5 years - for my eczema on my eyelid - I am 25 years old now. Elidel is a cream for atopic eczema without cortisone (cortisone free) - thus it does not make the skin thinner and my doctor thus recommended it for the eye area.
There are currently 2 brands out on the market that are suitable for the face and eye - “Elidel” and the little bit more stronger “Protopic” that are both cortisone free - these two does not make the skin area thinner according to scientifically proven tests. They have worked on my skin great. I constantly need to get back to them now and then but at least they do not make my skin around the eye thinner - so I am very happy with using something I do not need to be scared for more wrinkles.
Unfortunately these two product have the black warning box because they cannot rule out that they are linked to skin cancer and lymph cancer (hope I remember right) so they are usually not recommended by doctors as a first choice treatment - however the cases where they have found in the population who have used these creams and who later developed cancer is smaller than the percentage who get skin cancer and lymph cancer in the normal population so my doctor got VERY surprised when they got the black box warning.
Recommendation for using these creams have thus been recommended as a second options to cortisone cream (to only be used when such cream are not working or are not suitable (e.g. for the eye, cortisone is not suitable as it make the area much more thin).
Doctors are thus likely to prescribe cortisone unless you ask about these cortisone free products – talk to your doctor about these two options (I think they have been on the market since 2002). It should also be mentioned that no study have tested whether it is dangerous to use these creams in sunlight, solarium and other UVB and UVA treatment for eczema - why such should be avoided until they know more about the effect of that when you using the cream. So if you at the same time are using solarium/UVB treatment for your eczema these products are not recommended as the effects are not known.
However with me using cortisone cream since age of 12 making my skin around the eye getting more and more thin with wrinkles coming up I definitely wanted to have this cream to battle my eczema as my eczema is probably something I always going to have and I don't want to have big wrinkles. I may be superficial but taking cortisone cream are not good for anyone’s self-esteem and I don't want to look at my face everyday feeling bad about my wrinkles. I love these cortisone free creams and would recommend them to anyone that are not happy with their cortisone based ones due to their side effects (e.g. wrinkles) – talk to you doctor about the risk and benefits of using these product and see if they may be an option for you. To get more information you can also Google these products.
Honestly with this product (Elidel) together with "occulentum simplex APL"(which is a moisture) a product I buy in Sweden it includes "paraffin liquidum 20 g, vaselinun album ad 100g" (this can easy be made my any chemist and do not need a prescription if they don’t sell it in your country - I can truly manage my eczema very well. I am very happy that my doctor gave me the options to use these products.
I used occulentum simplex apl cream many times every day to keep my eye moisturized so I can have make up without my skin flaring - the Elidel I only use morning and night and after showers when my eczema needs it.
REMEBER that your eyes always look like it has more wrinkles when it is DRY so put constantly on a cream that work and keep it moisture (I believe in occulentum stongly and would recommend it to everyone who have not find a good moisture cream that can be applied). My wrinkles after 8 years of cortisone use definitely look smaller with a moisture eye – it is very important to have a good moisture that you can apply as soon as it gets dry, especially also to prevent eczema to break through.
The only I need to buy to hide my eczema is a concealer pencil (I use Sheshido number 2) that I cover my slight red color around the eyes - covering up the red color aslo make it feel better as it is more protected from wind, cold, and sunlight. However to be able to use this concealer I need to make sure that I constantly keep my eye moisture otherwise it flares and look bad.
To get rid of eye makeup I use EYE GEL from Australia Natio for sensitive skin that is perfect - does not feel one bit when you use it over the eye area – gel based once over the eyet I believe is the best.
My doctor one time said to be that when you feel well and your immune system are working good – you won’t have eczema as the body are able to put effort on those areas to manage it. However once you get sick or you stress or sleep bad – the body need to focus their effort on other areas and the eczema are thus more likely to outburst during those time – I think this is so true – and are thus always trying to feel good both physically and psychologically so that my body can put effort on my eczema. I try to eat well, exercise and be social to feel good
other things I do is…
1. use mineral powder makeup without mineral oil and talc and other bad things for us with eczema (Elitsabeth Ardens mineral powder series is good) – this do not irritate my eczema.
2. Do not shower too often – and when I do I use baby oil on my body to lock the moisture in. I currently have no eczema on the body but used to have – still getting dry though and can sometimes get some eczema around armpit and neck if I do not look after myself with moisture on my body. I do not use normal soap when washing my hands but a glycerin based on.
3. Do not stress too much and have time for myself – relax and take the time you need.
4. do yoga often
5. sleep at least 8 h
6. avoid some food when the eczema is bad – learn to recognize what is bad for you – pealing an orange or clementine is bad for me for example when my eczema is bad.
7. check if you have hay fever – my eyes where constantly running and I was sneezing a lot with worsen my eczema – now I treat every morning my allergy so help my eczema stay well.
Now my question to you -
1. do anyone take supplement of omega 3 - some say that we atopic eczema consumers have a lack of essential oils and that we thus are more like to blossom up now and then - I don't eat much fish so are thinking of starting to take some supplement has anyone out there tried it? Does it get better?
2. Has anyone tried the Dermalogica's skin care for sensitive skin - this brand do not include the nasty things that we eczema consumers should avoid. I am thinking of buying a kit for sensitive skin including - Kit includes:
1 x Ultracalming Cleanser
1 x Soothing Protection Spray
1 x Total Eye Care SPF 15
1 x Barrier Repair
1 x Climate Control
Has anyone tried anything of these? Are they any good?
Take care

i'm 14 and i've had eczema since i was 2. within my life i've used many steroids but the thing is i have VERY deep wrinkles under my eyes especially my right eye. it's primarily because i don't know what i'm allergic to and i constantly have allergic recations-so i resort to steroids. it's a viscious cycle that never ends.
i knw your probably thinking why not get an allergy test but i can't at the moment. 1, i'm on sleeping drugs and 2, my eczema is so bad the doctors said they wouldn't be able to notice the reaction anyway.

these points have been mentioned already. i believe they are worth mentioning again as so many of the posters here have glazed over them.
1) realize you are what you eat. eczema thrives in an acid environment. switch your diet to an alkaline based diet. this means balance your meals with loads of vegetables - especially deep greens, pumpkin seeds, and other alkaline foods. cut out highly acid causing foods like processed foods, sugar, white bread (try kamut or spelt instead). you can get a ph test kit at a health food store. also there are some good books about acid-alkaline balance. our bodies should be slightly alkaline naturally. in our fast paced society we tend to miss the nutrients we require to maintain this balance. eczema is your body's way of indicating it is off balance. fix the balance and the eczema will flush out of your system. it is not easy but it is really the ultimate cure. and once you learn to eat healthy you are unlikely to go back. the sense of well being and energy you find from a good diet is more addicting than the short lived satisfaction of predominantly acid (junk food) diet.
2) the salt solution recommended by jen
1) Get a cup/ jug and fill it with tap water
2) Get 2 tsp's of salt and mix with the water
3) Apply to the eye area (with your eyes shut)
4) This may sting at first (as the eye area is very sore because of the eczema but it won't after the first few days)
5) Allow the salt-water to penetrate the eye area for at least a min- 3 mins
6) Pat dry gently with a towel
if you are really into it
- yoga
- see a homeopath
the alternative appears to be a search for some elusive cure.

i have been struggling with this type of eczema for the past six months, ever since i started working full time and needed to wear make-up a lot. i used 1% cortizone cream (from dermatologist) about twice a day for about 1 month, without any lasting result. i could feel the skin under my eyes getting thinner and was noticing wrinkles there for the first time (i'm 21) but i thought this was part of the eczema. after reading this stream last week i decided to stop the cortizone at once - my eyes got so bad i had to wear sunglasses at work. since then i have tried alovera and vaseline. the alovera stung way too much to use, but the vaseline seems to be working really well - it is soothing and better than the cortizone. i applyed it every few hours for one weekend and it completely cleared up the eczema in just 2 days. Another good thing about vaseline is that it does not seem to have any effect if you get it in your eyes - apparently the cortizone could give cataracts and other eye problems.
BUT.. i have to wear makeup to work and using concealer, eye liner and makeup remover keeps aggrevating the eczema every day, so i have been applying vasaline at night. this is working well at keeping the eczema at bay and the wrinkles and thinness of my skin is much less noticible in just the last 5 days.
Can anyone reccomend make-up that does not cause this aggrevation? especially makeup remover. i was origionally using maybelline, and i think it was their concealer that set off the eczema. in the past several months i have also tried natio, body shop and estee lauder. i have heard that clinique is good for being hypoallergenic, but i had an allergic reaction to their toner a few years ago. i am in australia..
thanks to everyone for mentioning vaseline - it is just amazing effective!

I have resulted to botox..I couldn't stand the wrinkles anymore..Its a little extreme, but i am happy with the results, but not so much with the cost.

Hi,
just read some of your posts, it's comforting to know that other poeple have the same drama's i do. The main thing i feel that will make all this better is to eliminate from my life what is stressing me out as stress is the main contributor. Easier said than done but i honestly feel this is the best way to tackle Ezcema

Hi all,
Gosh am I glad that I have stumbled across this forum. Ive got loads of reading to do from everyones responses. I am 32 and although I must admit peeps say I look younger I know with these winkles, scars around my eyes I dont. I hate it so much. I dont really get itchy anymore (I think ive passed that stage) but Im left with the scars from when I always was itchy. I too have tried everything and I dont know what else to do, I just want to try something to get rid of the scars. Im so paranoid about my eyes it drives me nuts. I cant wear eye makeup because my skin is too sensitive and it just looks gross anyway with the wrinkles etc. And my eyes tear very badly. I do want to ask though, I am in New Zealand does anyone know of any creams or treatment local?? Your help is much appreciated.

Hello all. I'm 49 years old, have been using cortizone cream around my eyes, and now have horrible wrinkles as well. I have had good luck using olive oil around my eyes. It does sting if you get it in your eyes, so be careful. I try to use it right after I wash my face to help seal in the moisture. Also, a product made by Aveeno called "Advanced Care Moisturizing Cream with oat essence seems to help moisturize without irritating. I will apply the olive oil fresh out of the shower, let it absorb and then apply the Aveeno cream over the top. I was useing Vaseline petroleum jelly, but I think it was adding to the puffiness. I think my problem is allergy related so I take Zyrtec in the am and Benedryl before bed. Good luck to everyone. It's quite frustrating because it's so sporadic and those wrinkles really do age you.

Hi,this is a wonderful site!!, my 16 year old daughter suffers badly with excema all around her
eyes, she is so self conscious about it, we have tried everything from the doctor, all no good! and we dont want to use hydrocortisone cream on that area. she trys to cover it with make up but that just looks worse! Will definitely try the aloe gel and aqueous cream, but can anyone recommend a good eye makeup remover, she is using the simple make up wipes at the moment and not sure if they are irritating her eyes?

I have just found something which stops my eyes being red and sore and swollen in the mornings - vaseline. Just a thickish layer round the eyes and underneath has been working a treat. And as its basically a sort of moisturiser it can't harm your skin. Its good for underneath the eye wrinkles because it keeps them moisturised

I'm 35 years old and have always being mistaken for being at least 10 years younger until last year when I started getting big freaky bags under my eyes. A couple of months later, the red puffy swollen eyes followed by the wrinkles. It has added years to my face and really knocked my confidence. I am sick to death of people asking if I am ok, saying I look like I have been hit in the eye etc this whole business is driving me nuts because the doctor can't diagnose what I have got! I only realised I had some type of excema a while ago, the stupid doctor could't even figure that out!I agree with the ladies who talked about finding a natural cure as the doctors don't know shit! I have had no help from them!I went to the doctor who put me on antihistimines, and sent me for allergy tests that picked up nothing. the antihistimines worked for a while but are not that effective now.I have tried bio oil, apricot oil, paw paw ointment, none of these worked. I did my own research on the net to try and pin down what the cause of it is. initially when I first went to the doctor, he asked if I had any new pets, I said yes my kids just got some rats but they can't be the cause because I'm not allergic to animals so we didn't follow that line of enquiry any further. anyway, almost a year later I was looking around on the net and found info about symptoms for an allergy to rats that matched mine. apparently, you can be allergic to a particular animal without being allergic to others. unlike other animals, humans do not build a resistance to rats, the longer they are exposed the worse the symptoms get. I have moved the rats downstairs and don't touch them anymore, the kids take care of all the feeding, cleaning etc. apparently there is something in their urine and saliva that humans can be allergic to. once it dries it becomes airborne. my eyes have improved heaps in the last 2 weeks since they were moved but I am left with the wrinkly eyes. I was told by another lady that her grandmother who was a smoker for 30 years picked the stem of an aloe vera plant off every morning, peeled it like a banana and ate it raw. the next week when she saw her grandmother she looked like she had 10 years knocked off her, so I think it is definitely worth a try. I also knew a little girl who fell straight on her face and had a swollen nose, she had a hideous big scab that covered the middle of her face. her dad put aloe vera gel on her face straight from the plant, the next week when I saw her she was completely healed, you could not even see a scar, so that shit has got to be worth a try! also, I think the lady that talked about cleaning up your diet has a valid point, I have been eating reasonably healthy over the last couple of weeks and I think this has helped too. this site has given me some great options to try so will keep you posted if I find something that gets rid of the ugly wrinkles.

Hi everyone
So glad I've found this forum - i'm 27 and have really bad wrinkles under my eyes which I'm v paranoid about to be point of being obsessive now (checking the mirror frequently incase I can convince myself they're not there, but they are / constantly thinking about it...)- these must be from using steroid cream, i swear - for about a year when I was 18, I used Betnovate under my eyes to get rid of nasty, red, itchy sores and it worked a treat (I'd got it originally for eczema on my chin which used to flare up now and again) - sadly, when I went back to the doctor (a different one than had prescribed the betnovate initially) to get another tube, she said 'you're not using this round your eyes are you, because it thins the skin - you dont want wrinkles' - I denied it because I was embarrassed but got that feeling of dread in the pit my stomach so I stopped using it virtually straight away (amazingly my skin cleared up under my eyes after about 2 weeks off it and I've never had a problem since). Now I'm obsessed how bad these wrinkles look and it MUST be because of the cream - just wish I could turn back time and not use it because this must be irreversable - how much worse is it going to get over the coming years?! I'm so mad with myself, but I just didnt know not to use it!! PLEASE PLEASE NEVER PUT ANY STEROIDS ON YOUR FACE. I look fine when my face is relaxed but as soon as I smile, I get creases that look like scales on a fish under the inner eye and proper wrinkles on the outer. It's really getting me down and knocking my confidence and now I'm constantly looking at my friends and other people who are older than me and noticing that they dont have this. I'm thinking of going to the doctors about it but they'd probably laugh me out of the surgery - my mate has suggested going to a dermatologist.
I was just googling as well and found an article about using steroids near your eyes increasing the risk of glaucoma because of the damage it can cause to your eye - now I'm really scared.....has anyone else heard of this?

I'm 18 and I've had an exzma problem around my eye area since I was 14. It was awful because it would be really itchy and flaky and I would just stratch it more and more. My eyes became so puffy and red to the point where I could barely see and my eyelids bled.
The revelation came when I was 15- I went on holiday to Majorca and went in the sea a lot. I soon noticed my eyelids were healing and not itchy anymore. By the time I flew back home (1 week) they were back to how they were. We realised that it was the salt water that had healed it and I just got a cup and 2 teaspoons of salt and mixed them and applied it twice daily (morning + evening). I have continued to do this every day and the problem has only come back when I have forgotton to do it for a few days. So I highly recommend this to everyone with this problem, it certainely worked for me when nothing else did!
So you:
1) Get a cup/ jug and fill it with tap water
2) Get 2 tsp's of salt and mix with the water
3) Apply to the eye area (with your eyes shut)
4) This may sting at first (as the eye area is very sore because of the eczema but it won't after the first few days)
5) Allow the salt-water to penetrate the eye area for at least a min- 3 mins
6) Pat dry gently with a towel
I hope I can share this information and help at least one person,
Jen

Message to Janis: Thanks so much for the advice! Ive always been told to use thin layers of hydrocortisone on my face but Ive stopped now! Ive actually found that sudocreme helps reduce the redness and makes my skin feel better! Now to sort out that excess baggy skin round my eyes! Any ideas for that would be great!

Message to EczemaDance: when I was 20 I went to the doctor for some more creams that I'd used as a child. For the first time in my life, a doctor told me that I should not have been using steroid creams on my face! News to me! So I had to go "cold turkey". It felt like my face was falling off. It was sore and itchy and red and disgusting. However, I kept moisurising (see my not below about Epaderm) and after three weeks my skin recovered and went back to normal. The doctor said I was lucky. Then twenty years later my eyes flared up dreadfully, hence finding this forum. Don't despair. You are young and your skin will recover if you rest it and soothe it with something else. Don't give up.

Just wanted to add that although the medihoney soothed it didn't stop the eczema. I have just paid to go to a private consultant who has prescribed hydrocortisone 1% but as an ointment and a big tub of an emollient called Epaderm. You can use it as a moisturiser all over and wash with it too. I've used the hydrocortisone for one day and already my symptons have gone and the Epaderm is now keeping my skin really moisturised. Don't use hydrocortisone for more than a couple of weeks though. My eyes have returned to normal after 6 months! I did go to a consultant on the NHS but all they did was schedule me for patch tests some time in July! Go to your doctors and ask for the above on prescription. It's a breakthrough for me and hopefully now that the symptons are gone I can find a makeup range that doesn't make it all come back again. Good luck all.

I was actually trying to find out out if Hydrocortisone does anything to ur skin that makes it less likely 2 tan? BUT I was reading some of the comments so have 2 add I've suffered reasonably mild Eczema for as long as I can remember, I'm 26 now. It used 2 be on the common elbows and knees but when I got to around 15 it was my wrist, neck and under 1 eye... bad enough 4 other people 2 notice but nothing compared 2 some I'd seen then when I was 16 my forehead started flaring up really badly, like nothing I'd ever seen, it weeped, it cracked if I raised my eyebrows, and it was there 4 around 5 months... it totally devastated me, and nothing seemed 2 work. Eventually it cleared up, and left the wrinkles and stuff u guys are talking about, I've always been reluctant 2 give all the credit 2 Diprobase but it does help mild cases, ie the rest of my body . My forehead recently flared up again, but didn't get quite as nasty, once again I have it under control, partly with Hydrocortisone, but I find Hemp cream 2 be really good 4 it, u have 2 stick with it 4 like a week, and if ur in the UK or any country that has The Body Shop, I say buy it from there, I've had a few different 1's but tht seems 2 make it itch less... it's not expensive and worked wonders 4 me at least. I think that's what stopped it from going as far as it did when I was younger. But back 2 my original question, I use sunbeds, way more thn I should, and notbecause they're good 4 Eczema by the way, purely "cosmetic" and I know some of u are gonna say I'll get more wrinles from them which I agree with and I know they're bad but anyways.... Hadn't used them 4 around the last year, and started againaround 2 months ago but my forehead seems 2 be like catching 10% of the tan that the rest of my face is, it isn't pigmentation or anything else as "common" as that and I'm wondering if it could be the Hydrocortisone? I know it thins the skin but in turn does the "thinned" skin absorb less rays or anything? Man I've written a book... sorry guys=]

Hey guys if you have trouble rubbing your eyes in your sleep try some rescue remedy from your health shop. I take it before I go to sleep. It helped me stop itching at nite, although unfortunately it doesn't stop the ezcema!

Hi all. I discovered this forum a short time ago and am so thankful. You have all given me some good advice and things to try. I too have been a mild eczema sufferer since childhood. I hit forty last year and somehow my eczema has got worse, especially the eye area. I have been experiencing the same symptons as the rest of you around the eyes. I'm an allergy sufferer too but have found that my usual medications (eye drops or antihistamine) are no longer effective on the symptons. I feel for all of you having not experienced pain and soreness like this for many years. So following some of your advice I have just started using Aloe Vera gel again and have tempered the stinging by then using my Cetraben emollient cream over the top. It seems to be helping alot but I have also found that taking Echinacea has helped greatly. I figure that the eczema/histamine response is related to my immune system which the echinacea helps to balance and over a couple of weeks I have seen a marked improvement. Plus I thought I would investigate the uses of a certain honey that comes from a particular tree in New Zealand! it's the expensive honey you buy from specialist health food stores. I've just bought a cream called medihoney derma cream that contains this ingredient and no other bad ingredients (no parabens or the dreaded propylene glycol). I've only used it a couple of days but it felt soothing from the first application and now anytime I feel a tingle or itching start I put a little on. It's very cooling and my skin seems to have responded very well. . But I thought I'd share it as a possible try. Good luck with anything you try. Oh, and as a reflexologist, don't dismiss the power of complementary therapies - if only for some relaxation which most of us probably need to de-stress.

Hi thought i'd share my story. I have periorbital eczema and like others have swollen red sore eyes (itching too)and red flaky split damaged wrinkled skin all around the eyes. Medication hasn't worked. I stopped wearing makeup and using any skin products as everything was irritating them more. I started wearing dark glasses - difficult indoors! I found that because the skin round my eyes was so sore my eyes just kept watering and often had tears rolling down my face. Of course this made the skin worse!!!! However I am now getting better - not sure whether it's luck or if just a lull but this is what I am doing now:
Using diprobase - 4-5 times a day, using aqueous cream for washing, patting dry with a towel used just for my face, using simple derma intensive relief to moisterise face day and night, using alomide eye drops 2/3 times a day - particularly last thing at night - if I don't my eyes start watering and the whole cycle starts again, changed bedding to anti allergy pillows and mattress cover, use only sensitive washing liquids and no fabric conditioner, wash my hand lots but keep putting simple cream on so they don't get sore and try not to touch my eyes - hard especially when I wake up!. All this does seem to be making a difference so it's worth it. Hope some of this may be useful to you, keep trying and good luck. Do share your findings so that others can try and maybe beat it!

Hi, for years i experienced occasional eyelid eczema and it would sometimes become infected, which was awful. The Christmas just gone the skin got realy infected and i needed antibiotics. It healed with scabs all over my eyelids. I don't really get eczema anywhere else on my body.
I know i caused it by rubbing and touching my eyes too much so since then i have been very careful to wash my hands properly and not touch my eyes, even if they are itchy (you have to resist!!!). This helped to heal the skin a bit but the left eyelid skin remained very red- to the point that it just looked sore and it really bothered me.
I tried diprobase and hydrocortisone but nothing worked to reduce the redness. All these creams contain additives and preservatives and i am sure they irritated the skin a little.
Anyway i thought i would try something natural and free from all additives and read about Burt's Bees products. I purchased the hand salve (suggested for hands but i read someone else say it works well for eyelid eczema). After a few days of applying it liberally at night and in the morning the skin was significantly improved, supple, and with reduced redness.
I urge anyone with eyelid eczema to give it a try and stick with it for a week. It is very oily but you must slap it on, oh and if any gets in your eyes it will sting so be careful. Also never, ever touch or scratch your eyes and be scrupulous about washing hands to ensure no large numbers of bacteria reach your eyelids.
Good luck
!

Hi Ru and all,
Thought I'd report back as a lot has happened. I've now been diagnosed with Rosacea and so there's a whole different approach I need to take. I also realised that the cortisone creams I'd used (I'd got down to using just a little at night) would ultimately mean the Rosacea would flare up worst when I stopped. And so, I'm now on completely different treatment and my face is much worse than when they thought it was Eczema.
I'm raking in advice from a new forum now: rosaceagroup.org I'd just recommend asking your doc about this if you have flared cheeks and nose bridge.
However, I still can't rave enough about Shea Butter. Its the only thing that helps with the pain and burning. Good luck to all.

My eczema around my eyes can be awful. Sometimes at night if they have been red in the day, they puff up whilst I'm asleep.
I've tried diprobase, but this doesnt get rid of the itching. I've also used hydrocortisone, which helps, but am worried about wrinkles.
What is the best thing to use to PREVENT the redness and what should i use in an emergency when they are puffed up.
I'm getting married in ten weeks and am worried they could be red for the wedding.

You guys please change your diet, please discipline, detox eat fruit lots of greens, i had the worst eczema ever it was not until i visited a Infectious Disease Dermatologist who told me the truth, he said deal with it or change the entire way you eat after about three weeks of all fruit, veggies, turkey, and chicken it cleared up. Its been two years no sign of eczema, I miss regular food and sometimes I get hungry as hell but it is not worth the agony of eczema.

IM 27 YEARS OLD AND USED TO SUFFER TERRIBLE WITH ECZEMA AROUND MY EYES AS I WAS GROWING UP( HORMONES CAN AFFECT ECZEMA) I SAW A DERMATOLIGIST WHO RECCOMMENDED DIPROBASE (AVALIBLE IN ALL CHEMIST) WHICH WORKED WONDERS BACK THEN AND HEALED MY EYES TO PERFECTION! BUT IM NOW PREGNANT AND IT HAS STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN!!DUE TO AN INCREASE IN HORMONES.THE THING IS THIS TIME THE DIPROBASE ISNT WORKING AND I AM DESPERATE TO FIND SOMETHING TO RID IT SO AM VERY OPTIMISTIC TO TRYING THE ALOE VERA GEL...WISH ME LUCK!X

Hey She. hope you are feeling better.
i totally understand, whats worse for me is i never used to use makeup cos i didnt really need it! although now i just have to use concealer to cover it up, i dont like going out looking like a panda! lol its terrible confidence really drops. i feel better now after trying the aloe vera you should try it, and after it i use cetraben emollient cream which is much better then Aqueous and really helps keep my skin moisturised and not as dry but i keep applying it every 20minutes or so until im satisfied with how it feels!
okay thank you i will try search for the red palm oil now.
also i think clinique allow you to take back the product if you have used it once and it didnt work for you. thats a good idea i might try that actually, hope i dont get someone rude that tells me i cant do that.
x

p.s. I managed to get red palm oil from Akamuti.co.uk. I'm not sure which category it was in but just do a search and you'll find it. x

Hi Ru,
Thanks for the message. I know, I'm not one for wearing makeup now. I'm gonna have to start from scratch with makeup as my whole complexion is different, so I'm afraid I wouldn't have many suggestions. I think I'll start with clinique too. Let me know how you get on.
Not necessarily eczema related, but when I go makeup/foundation shopping I always take some of those plastic mini stacking jars - they are about £1 in boots. I always ask the counter ladies if I can have a couple of squirts to try at home. Its a good way to trial a foundation without spending all that money on trial and error. Good luck.

She: i am so sorry that you have to quit youre job as a model that must be terrible. really do try the aloe vera i tried it last night and i feel better 2day hopefully it keeps up like this.. THANK YOU RHONDA u r a legend!

Hey,
I'm also battling eczema around the eyes and on my cheeks. Its all only flared up really badly in the last 7-8 weeks, but as I'm a model, I'm having to quit my job. Even though its calmed down now, I know the blotches and mainly the wrinkles can't be fixed by any make-up artist...! So while researching and considering my career options, I've been checking up on this forum too and I have to say it has helped me heaps. Thanks.
As for advice, well its different for everyone, but Simple Derma Intensive Relief Cream almost healed my eyes in a few hours, which felt like a miracle as they had been swollen for days, and red and itchy for weeks. I did have to finally get rid of the last thick bumpy skin with the tiniest dab of Eumovate just before bed for 2 nights.
Although it wasn't helping much with my eyes, Shea butter was great for reducing the redness and calming my cheeks. The more unrefined the better as it has a higher healing fraction.
Obviously changing your diet is vital towards healing and managing the eczema, but I will mention how I'm going to attempt to tackle the wrinkles. The only factually proved ingredient that can fight wrinkles is Vitamin A (on ingredients its 'Retinol') so always look for this. Red Palm Oil is a natural emollient that is very high in vit A and also is very effective in restoring your skin's barrier. I managed to find some raw red palm oil online (it actually comes as a sticky paste)so this, and a herb called Gotu Kola (which is meant to help thicken the skin) are going to be my first trials. I'll le tyou know how I get on. I'm getting married this time next year and I hope to have improved by then! Sorry for the long spiel, but hope some of this advice helps someone. Good luck all

has anyone botoxed the wrinkles caused from their eczema around the eyes?

I had eczema on my eyelids first, then on my neck, later on around my mouth and forehead and my hands for 15 years and I am 45 years old now... I experienced that direct sun, heat, spicy food, wine, honey, some salty nuts, metals accessories and some hair products burst and starts my eczema again and again during my stressed, sadness and worry times... I have incredible beautiful skin other times that every body compliment on it... I washed my face EVERY morning and night w/ PONDS face cleaner and moisturized it w/PONDS face cream for 30 years. If I missed ONLY ONE day of cleaning process my skin exposed pimples and other problems .
I prevent eczema's itching period within the 10 minutes when its occurs using BETNOVATE-C cream (cream w/ cortisone and it is not available in US Market with this name but I am sure as being one of the GLAXO product it is available in different name but don't know.) This marvelous cream prevents itching period immediately but damages my skin very badly and leaves wrinkles and peels. But immediately after I use intensively my moisturize cream called "PONDS" every 1/2 hour on harresed area until my skin turn to normal. This time takes 3 to 4 days. I think Eczema is very CONTIGIOUS. It spreads itself in and out. My daughter and my husband have it until we figure out that it is possible (even though doctors tell opposite). You need to wash your hands and spearate your towels after each cream applications. You even could not use the same finger on the the different areas of eczema Because when you get it once you will have it forever until final curing method invented. So far I came w/ this solituion to fight w/ my eczema...
And one day I saw these lines below and told me lots..

Hi to all you sufferers out there. I'm 32, never suffered from eczema in my life, till theis sunmer, it started on my hands, now i've got it around my two eyes. I had never realised how difficult eczema could be, but it knocks your confidence and is highliy irritating. I used to worry about the appearance of tiny fine lines and now in the space of a few weeksi've got deep eczema lines ingrained into my darkened, swollen eyes. I just wanted to say that docs creams are nonsense and all natural is the only way. Docs creams only surpress the problem. WEll my symnpathy goes out to the people who have suffered through their younger years and wanted to say that they are trult brave and courageous.
By the way I'm also a new sufferer with thyroid problems and was wondering if that was connected.

Hi everyone. I am a 32 year old female and battling with eczema on my face for the last 15 years. DO NOT put any steroids/cortisone cream on your face. I made a mistake by listening to my dermatologist and doing it. Now my skin have fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes, bridge of my nose and forehead. It is due to the steroids thinning my skin out. I've recently found a natural ointment at a natural food store in the city that I lived and just used it for a day now. But there are info on this page if you want to read more about it: emilyskinsoothers.com
Best of luck to you all and i hope this helps.

I've too have eczema on my eyelids. I've been fighting the condition for about two years. The best advise that I got was from my GP. He said to stop using conditioner, and only use baby shampoo on my hair, and only Dove soap on my face. The eczema is not gone, but it's not a constant battle. I'm going to try the aloe vera next.

KELP POWDER!!! PLEASE TRY THIS!
I am tentatively celebrating the discovery of a new way for treating the ecsema around my eyes. I have been looking at this forum for a while now as I have suffered from ecsema for most of my life, but only around my eyes for about 3 months. Ecsema is bad enough, but around your eyes is the worst. It was totally ruining my confidence and I had stopped going out other than to work and home.
Anyway, for about a month I have been using the aloe vera recomended on this forum, which has helped a lot, so, I thought I should share my recent discovery.... KELP POWDER. 100% Seaweed powder. I was given this by a family friend, but I believe that you can buy it online.
Over the last two days I have been using this powder, mixed with a little water and applied like a face pack directly to the skin around my eyes. In 2 days ALL of the redness, puffiness and 'oozing' has stopped completely.
If I run my finger over my lids I can still feel the roughness of the ecsema, but all the other symptoms including the itchiness have disapeared. I am going to continue using this seaweed paste nightly and c
I have tried it on other effected parts of my body and it has taken away ALL the inflamation and weeping, but the dryness is still there. I am hoping that over time and without the constant itching, this will heal.
I don't want to get my (or your) hopes up, we all know that there can be a lot of 'false dawns' with this horrible affliction, but this is certainly the best and most immediate response I have ever had from any treatment and I am relieved that it is a natural product. My eyes look normal for the first time in 3 months!!
If anyone else wants to try it and let me now how they got on feel free. Fingers crossed.

just to update, i started to see changes after 3rd application of aloe vera...
At first application, it stings like hell, and so is the second one...It feels like as though my skin was peeling..very painful..it swells a lil..
Upon the third application, though it stings, the eczema did not swell..the redness around my eye wasnt as bad!...I kept my aloe in the fridge for the 3rd application, and i sat right infront of my electrical fan to cool the sting off. LOL!..
thanks rhonda..will update more, and perhaps post up some pics if my eczema clears off! thanks once again

oops i did not have any aqueous cream..i just applied Aloe Vera 100% gel from fruit of the earth, and it stings like mad..hopefully it works. haha!

Hi..i'm glad i came across this page...i can tell you that i've been suffering from eczema just as of lately, and i'm 33..this summer i have been suffering with it around my eyes..i spent so much money on creams, and anything i can get my hands on...the under eye wrinkles are there now too...what i finally resorted to was buying the actual aloe vera plant..also known as the healing plant...cut off apiece every night and squeeze the goo on and leave it overnight..it has helped soooooo much...since reading these posts i may try the aloe cream because its probably less gooey than the actual plant stuff...i just figured you can't get any more pure or natural than getting it right from the plant itself...does anyone have any help for the wrinkles..will my skin ever go bak to normal??? i've purchased an eye cream from neo strata..very costly..hoping that helps.

ALOE VERA GEL is a miracle cure for this i have tried everything, i have had excema all my life, but all of a sudden it ison my eyes, i do get fed up with people saying what is wrong with your eyes, it does sting, but it does work like rhona says keepp applying aqeoueues cream and the effects are excellent, thanks for excellent advice, aloe vera cream from holland and barratt excellent!

Aloe gel really works, with aqueous cream, try it it helps heal with in one day, can believe it!

Rhonda thank you so much! I have had eczema under both eyes and on my eyelids - really red and sore and it's giving me wrinkles. I used the 99.9% organic aloe vera gel (got it from Holland and Barrets) at night before going to bed. During the day I keep moisturised with E45. After 2 nights/days of this, my eye eczema was much better (touch wood it stays that way). I still have the wrinkles from the eczema though - a friend has suggested I try organic rosehip oil so I will give this a go. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know. But I def recommend the aloe vera!

I just missed 2 days of work because eczema on my face and neck have been out of control. I bought Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion and it really hydrated my skin after one application. My face can begin to heal now that it is not cracked and weeping. My eyes were very swollen for 2 days and now I have 2 deep wrinkles under each eye instead of 1...grrrr! My eczema used to be bad only in the winter and now I dread when June comes around. Is it possible that the heat alone is the trigger? If so I am going to have to move north! Once my face heals do you think the Eucerin will help erase the wrinkles?

I suffer badly too with eczema around the eyes and I have just discovered a cream that has stopped the redness, stopped the itching & swelling and has actually ironed out the undereye wrinkles!!! I use SUDOCREM ...the nappy rash cream! It is safe to use on the face & it has cleared up my eyes so well that I can wear eye make up and begin to look well again! Give it a try...

Hi I have eczema on the bridge of my nose its so red
and i have it at the side of my one eye
i have been to the Doctors and he keeps giving me
Hydrocortizone and it makes the problem worse
what can I do

Hi there " i hate eczema" I suffer the same problem as you the dreaded eczema around the eye area. I use dermol cream moisturiser around the eye lid area first. Leave to dry for about an hour. Then I apply protopic to the area. You would need these on a script from your doctor. The protopic will sting for the first 24 hours but is soo worth it. I would also advise although difficult not scratching or rubbing the area as it makes it so much more difficult to heal. I know this through personal experience unfortunately. Good luck let me know how you get on. Have you used any other creams from the doc on this area before?

Im soo tired of my eczema. ive had it since i was born. and am 21 now.

raw food seems to make a marked difference. Raw,fresh organic if poss.Try and have about a litre of fresh veg and fruit juice a day, exercise, meditate, cut out processed food. Forget the GPs,they are not informed and will only give you bandaid results that flare up over and over again. I am working on this as I have the same flare ups ...nature knows best!

Rhonda, had a couple more applications now and its a lot better but not gone yet. Its worst just above my eyelash, i suppose it could be infected in which case i may have to go to quacks... The real test will be tomorrow as its usually much worse in mornings, it must get aggrevated through the night, wish i could sleep on my other side!hmmf. Just to back up what u said If other people try this don't be put off by the initial stinging sensation and u might get some redness if u get any on surrounding normal skin, this is normal and doesn't last long. The gel also worked a treat on some minor contact dermatitis on my hand, again THANK YOU U DA WOMAN (not sure if that quite works but u get my meaning yeh)
ITEM USED (from health food shop)
ORGANIC ALOE VERA GEL 99.9%
CHEERS

yaaaaaaaaa! That makes me so happy! Thanks for the good vibes, I can feel them already! Aloe Vera Gel has some sort of anti-inflammatory within it that brings the redness down. Unfortunately, there will be some mornings you'll wake up and think it didn't work. Just keep up the routine, it will get better... Hope it works for other people as well!!

Rhonda, u r a legend! Tried the aloe vera gel and aqueous cream as u suggested and the results were amazing. My severely red and swollen eye lid and surrounding area were almost back to normal after just one treatment. This problem had got worse over a period of the last 6 months, and today got so bad i looked like i had been punched in my left eye when i woke up. I am not even going to the doctor today as planned, its that good so far. I can't thank you enough, its a really nice person who posts this kinda help for others, my 12 year old niece has similar problems with her eyes too so u have helped her aswell. nice one. EVERYONE SUFFERING TRY THIS NOW, sending good vibes your way.

Hi, I wrote on this page probably about a year and a half ago but I think it's time to write again. I am in my late 20s and suffer with red nasty sores around my eyes sometimes. It doesn't happen as often now but every once and a while will. I will give you advice the doctor's won't. DO NOT USE HYDROCORTIZONE CREAM!! It may work temporarily but will not fix the problem. In fact - that is what gives you the wrinkles!! If you talk to you doctor about it, they will tell you this won't happen if you "use it properly". Dare them to use it. They're not the ones who have to suffer!! Through all I have been through (even drank the chinese "teas" for awhile), the only thing that worked for me (and still does, I still use it everday before I go to bed, even if I don't have flare ups) is ALOE VERA GEL! I know it sounds unrealistic but in truth, it is more powerful than you think!! Every night rub it around you eyes. Don't dab it or lightly apply. Rub it vigorously until it stings. At first I thought I was doing damage because it hurt so much. This is a good pain - it is doing you good!! Put LOTS on. After a while, when it dries (you eyes will feel tight, that's okay), apply a regular aqueous cream to keep your eyes hydrated. The next morning, the redness will go down and your eyes will be refreshed! TRUST ME!! It took me many years to realise all the bull$hit the doctors tell you is to get you in and out of the office quickly. You don't need drugs - Aloe Vera Gel!! Get the 99.9% kind from the health food stores/chemists. Good luck!!

Hi Stuck, just read your message today. I also have very bad wrinkles under and above my eyes due to using steriod creams as a child and they have not disappeared and probably never will. Sometimes they are not as noticeable but a couple of days a week they seem to flare up and I get the usual comments like "You look tired" and "Did you have a drink last night" - and it gets very annoying after a while. Unfortunately I think we have to live with these wrinkles unless we can afford an eye bag removal operation - which I can't!!!

help due to having eczema flare ups under my eyes i now have v.deep and unusual wrinkles!!! My doctor said i could use hydrocortisone around the area, but i think this might have added and worsend the wrinkle problem :~ is there any chance my skin will go back to normal?

My Eczema has gotten allot better since I posted back in November. I been using Triamcinlne Acetonide ointment and its the only medication that works. I dont use any other lotions because it just irritates my skin more. I still have the under eye wrinkles though and I really hate it because im only 21 years old. Im kinda nervous for August because every August for the past 2 years i get a flare up on my face that lasts months. Im hoping with my medication this wont happen. Thanks for you all sharing it means alot knowing that other people are going through the same. Sorry it took so long to reply i been very busy with school. Good thing i dont have to go back ti'll fall.

Hi i have had a recent flare up around my eyes, someone suggested bio oil? any use?

hiya evileczema,
sorry to hear about this bitch you work with, just proves how spiteful and non-understanding some people are in this world - makes me tempted to give em a thump on the eyes and say 'there, now you look worse than i do'!! hehehe but no violence is not the way.
i really beleive that people who dont suffer from eczema think 'oh its just a bit of itchy skin, big deal', but its so much more than that. its not just a physical thing its a mental thing as well.
but, as hard as it is getting up and just going to work in the mornings, i dont want to NOT go to work cos of eczema, if u know what i mean, cos then its like its beaten me.
but its horrible isnt it, when you know that people are noticing. i'm fed up of being asked 'are you feeling ok?' and 'are you feeling tired?' cos i forever have to reply through gritted teeth with 'NO - I'm fine thanks' grrr!
someone asked me last week, 'are you ok? you don't look very good around the eyes,' to which i just laughed (yes, laughed, i was surprised at myself) and replied, 'ah well, i never look good around the eyes!' to which the person obviously felt a bit guilty and started going, 'oh no dont say things like that, didnt mean anything by it' etc etc,
the good thing is, once you tell them its eczema, they tend not to say too much more. i said to one person, 'yeh its eczema round my eyes, makes me look crap, but i'm just getting on with my life, cos it could be worse'
i think that's important to remember - i know how crap eczema is, but there are people out there with much worse conditions ( i know its hard to think like that sometimes)
i'm sorry how your colleague treated you but that's just pure bullying and is not on at all, but well done for trying not 2 let it effect you :-)
ah the things we have to put up with, heh?!
keep happy evileczema!

Hi Totallie, Good to hear from you!! Well since my last post i've had a major blow out with a total bitch i work with!!
If this ism't bullying i don't know what is!
I was sat at reception and this lovely girl said to me "are you tired?"
I said "yeah" to which she replied "you must be your skin's awfull what are you using?"
Tired of explaining i've tried everything under the sun and its probally cost me near on a grand in the last three years I said "just what i always use"
" oh well think its time for a change" and laughed. I wanted to scream there and then for the humiliation, the arrogance and for being ten years older than me and not knowing better, how childish???
Three days later i was still speaking to this girl like nothing has happened!( i didn't see the point it letting it effect me)
In the staff room she starts again " you must be so stressed your skin is terrible whats going on with your lips there all scabby?""
BITCH ALERT BITCH ALERT!!! On both occasions there has been other people there which adds to the humiliation thankfully the second time one of the girls stuck up for me and said thats a bit nasty
Fighting the tears i managed to say "unless you've had it you don't know what its like i've tried everything!"
I didn't speak to this girl for the next few days and tried my best to block her out untill she started shouting at me about an akward atmosphere and how it couldnt continue.
So we had a chat and i burst out crying explaining that its so bad some days i don't want to get out of bed and that some mornings i'll take three anti histamine tablets just so i can open my eyes she told me she used to have bad acne so she understood i felt like sayin if you know how it feels then you''ll know the worst possible thing someone can do is mention it!!
She seemed sorry but maybe it was more to do with the fact everyone knew she had said it and thought she was out of order who knows??
All i can say is its true what they say bullys are people who have been bullied themselves at some point however wouldn't you think a 31 would know better?

Hello to you both. I'm 21 ans suffering just like you are, beleive me I know how you feel (and it's nice to know i'm not the only one suffering from this - i thought i was). Eczema around me eyes has come up big style. Like you, I've had really itchy eyes (on the eyelid edge mainly), which go puffy, red and weep once rubbed. Night time is worst - I've just combatted rubbing and itching my eyes during the day - but at night i wake up and i'm rubbing my eyes and that is SO frustrating! In the mornings i really look terrible and try to cover it up the best i can but i'm so self concsious - and worst of all ,people at work are now noticing. sometimes it's a challenge just to get to work. i think it's my job that may have caused this because i've sarted a new job 4 months ago (stress factor) and work with computers in an air conditioned office (dries eyes out)
what i'm trying at the moment is viscotears during the day to keep the eye moisturised and hopefully this will stop that itchy feeling - and at night i'm putting in lacri-lube which is a thick gel, and its supposed to help stop eyes sticking together in the morning. i'm using diprobase around the eyes where the skin is dry and red. to be honest i do'nt really know what else to try. there are some eye cleaning wipes called LidCare which i may try, just 2 keep the eye clean.
trying to keep off steroids at the moment - trobule is it's a quick fix and instant relief - dont use it as much as i used to and when i do i use v. small amounts.
i hope what i've mentioned may be of some use to you both - remember - keep happy!
All the best

Dear tired of eczema, Damn i hear ya im 21 and in the same boat feel as though i look 30 and to make it worse im a beauty therapist so im forever advising poeople on skin care ( fine when mines clear, highly embarrasing when i look like the blotch monster.. i do today i may add!!)
Its really strange i've had it on and off since i was a baby i can go 7-8 years not a mark on me and then almost over night ...... im a scaley prune again! This last bout started about two weeks ago and when it flairs im like a bear with a sore head i feel like everyone is staring especially bcoz of the industry im in!! I feel like i can control everyone elses skin but my own!! I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING!!! being in the sun helps so i USED to go on the sunbeds but now i have awfull wrinkles bcoz of it! All i can say 1000000% is try and stay away from shitty steriods as much as possible ( yes every now and then when that itch is so intense i give in!) but never on my face i think due to steriod creams being issued as a baby my skin is now so super sensitive!!and thin!!!
I some times can't slepp cause im itching so much its a vicous circle its stress indused and then it makes me more stressed that its there!! Winter is always worst central heating harsh cold winds!! arghhh! my eyes are real bad at the moment all swollen and puffy look like i've bn punched and my hands are so sore especially in between my fingers!!
I compleatly understand about boyfriend i woke up one day last year looked in the mirror and when he woke up i was like "don't look at me" and i couldn't stop crying!! To be honest though i think we think we look worst coz not only do we see it we can feel it dry, puffy, inflammed ITCH!
listen i don't know where this essay came from and the way i feel right now i don't feel like i have any good suggestions ( i feel like i find something thats working great and then a few weeks later the problem re occurs arghhhhh!) but just want you to know i'm with you on it all and feel exactly the same ( i've felt suicidal with it all at times too!) we just gotta try and be positive and think there are far more other things to be worrying about and lots of other people far worse off than us..... its only eczema!!!!!! ( evil bloody eczema lol!! )

Im only 20 years old and i have under eye wrinkles due to my eczema. Does anyone have any advise on how to make them go away. I also have eczma on my face, neck, arms, legs, hands, feet, back, stomach basically everywhere. No treatment seems to work and i am embarrsed to even let my boyfriend look at me. Nothing seems to stop the constent itching and it drives me crazy. My Eczema makes me so depressed sometimes that i want to die.
