No need to remove the flaky skin. After washing face, pat dry. Spray with thermal water (I use Avene). Once absorbed, use a cotton bud to dab jojoba oil on eyelid and surrounding problem areas. Once in the morning and once at night before bed is usually adequate. More if necessary.

Also, use Emily Skin Soothers.

Hi Jess
I too have also just found this website. It is some comfort to find I am not the only person with this red eye wrinkle eczema problem.
For years I very sparingly dabbed eumovate on the red patches but quite suddenly these verticle lines have appeared. I am going to follow an aloe vera and aqeous cream regime and hope for the best. If it's any comfort I think the flaking off of the thick skin is a good thing. Better than crusty lumps for sure.

Hi Everyone,
I just found this website. I had a terrible case of eczema on my face last year. I still have red marks (they take forever to fade). I never got another outbreak on my face because I kept it moisturized with a special antioxidant cream. A month ago I started using emu oil to reduce redness and it's the only thing that has helped so far. I lost so many layers of skin, but they have mostly grown back after not using any chemicals or cleansers on my face for a year.

Now I have a worse problem. I got some dry skin under my eyes starting the week of Christmas. This may not be eczema at all... it could just be dead skin and makeup residue that got stuck to my face since I don't wash it much (because my cheeks are still healing). The amount of skin stuck to my eye grew significantly after using a lotion that was not meant for the eyes. After sleeping on it for a few nights, the skin started to create wrinkles because the crust was warping its shape!!! So the other day I massaged Vaseline under my eyes and the crust came loose and came off. The skin under there looks DIFFERENT than it did before. But I had no redness, irritation, itching or anything, it was just a hunk of dry/dead skin. It looks like one eye has had a chemical peel under it.

Do you guys ever soak your eczema patches until the skin comes off or do you just leave it alone? I'm afraid that I ruined my face by taking off the dead skin *cries* ... but then again it could've created more wrinkles if I had left it there. What do you think? When skin forms a thick crust, is it an excess of dead stuff, or are you removing something important when you moisturize it until it comes loose?
