Hi

Rather than try one thing at a time, try a lot of different things all at once....so try meditating to stop you scratching and the same time as using a new cream and taking a supplement to boost your immune system. Im finding that if I switch between a couple of different creams, my skin wont grow immune to them.

My eczema has been healing without a flare up for a month now, and it was only moderate to start with, but last night I rubbed bicabonate soda on my 'patches' and rinsed it off in the bath (make it into a bit of a paste), then moisturized with simple derma and coconut oil and emulsifier and my skin looks much better today.

Ideas of supplements include echinacea, evening primrose oil, quercertin.

Hope that helps!!

Hey, I'm 18. I have had both eczema and asthma since infancy. I have constantly been in and out of hospital with asthma for about 5 years. Istead of growing out of either, both my asthma and eczema have been getting progressively worse. This winter has been the worst yet for my eczema. My arms are covered, it's all over my scalp, my shoulders, back, neck, face and knees. I find that with creams and ointments and everything, that after 3 weeks or so I have to change to something new. Everything seems to work really well at first but then just stops, but this year nothing has worked. Grrrr, sooooo itchy!

I think it's like how when you grow addicted to steroid treatment for asthma. I've had adrenal suppression multiple times, but so far we've always managed to ween me off of the steroids.

Any ideas on how to help??

just googled eczema & tempur as had issues with scalp. Had a Tempur pillow for about 2 years. I first thougth it was the air conditioning in the office. My job now means I stop in hotels during the week: no scalp issues! until I return home at the weekend and use the Tempur pillow. I've stopped using it now and so far, no flakes!

I've had seasonal allergies my whole life. When I was about 25 I found out that I had asthma. Three years later I came down with the eczema after moving from a sea level humid climate to a high altitude dry climate. Personally, I'd take the allergies and asthma over the eczema any day.
Your mom's bed could absolutely be a problem. Find out about the materials in a Temper mattress versus a traditional one. Keep me informed-I've been wanting one of those myself.

My Mum who is now eighty has suddenly developed Eczema (3 months ago) she has had Asthma for about the last 20 years. At first the Doctor thought she had been bitten by a mosquito on holiday in Scotland but as it got no better and her days and nights were becoming miserable we kept pestering him we eventually went to see a specialist who diagnosed Eczema she has E45 and a variety of pills and in desperation I had sent away to the States for yet another Cream! My question is perhaps a stupid one I have been racking my brain to think what has changed and the only thing I can think of is she got a new all singing all dancing bed about 4 months ago - with a "Tempur" mattress does anyone know if there is a possibility of the 2 being linked?

Hi, i'm Lisa and only found out about this website the other day. I am 19 and started uni last september. Since I left home my eczema has flared up well and truly and nothing seems to be getting rid of it. I have visited the doc numerous times now!! I also have asthma (which i've had since i was four). I was told i would grow out of it by the time I was 14, nearly 6 yrs later i still have it. I hope i can get rid of the eczema because it is really getting me down. I don't like wearing anything that will show of my arms now cos i get too emberrassed about what people might think. Can anyone reccommend anything I can use to at least sooth my eczema??

Hi! I am 12 yrs. old and since i was a baby I had asthma and was in and out of the hospital with bronchitis and pneumonia. When i was about 3 I developed eczema. I later found out it was because of a serious corn allergy, when I ate corn and applied corn products on my skin, I would break out in rashes, and wheeze. I was just in the hospital last week. (i rest my case) Although my asthma and eczema is still pretty bad, it has improved since I found out my allergies. I advise you to get checked for them. It could make all the difference. I was allergic to so many things is wasn't even funny. I sooooo think you should get checked for allergies. It will be so worth it.

I am 15 years old and i have developed eczema in the past two years, and it has been a huge burden to me in my high school life. Or that is at least what the biopsy read.I hate explaining myself to other classmates and it makes me feel so different. I am currently going for light treatments and I have used every sort of cream on the market, and nothing has worked yet. I am not going to my school dance and I persist on wearing long sleeves even in the warm weather untill I become cleared up. I have many allergies, such as trees, grass, dust, mold, feathers, almost everything in the book. I also been suffering from severe exercise and allergy induced asthma for the past 3 years or so. I run track and play soccer everyday of my life and it makes it all worse but I cannot just give up my dreams for this. Im constantly run down and sick, and I want to know if any one knows of any creams or treatments that may help me get through high school.

Sadly it's not certain that you grow out of it. I've had eczema since I was 3 months old. The Doctor said I would grow out of it by 7 years, then 14 years.....I'm 39 now and still waiting!

I developed asthma, though it's mild and well controlled, when I was 12.

Hi all!!

From infancy I had asthma and very heavy wheezing. It wasn't until later in life that I actually developed eczema. I also found that if you start off life with eczema, you will grow out of it. I always felt jealous of kids with eczema, because getting it at an older age meant that I may be stuck with it for a very long time and I knew that they would be free of it in a few years. The grass really is greener, isn't it?!

Babies who wheeze “may not develop asthma”
22 January 2002

Not all babies who wheeze will necessarily go on to develop asthma in later life, according to researchers from the Institute of Child Health in Bristol and St George’s Medical School in London.
The researchers studied around 10,000 children taking part in the “Children of the 90s” project based in Bristol. The team, led by Dr Andrea Sherriff, found that over 60 per cent of children who wheezed in the first six months after birth had stopped wheezing by the age of three-and-a-half years.

After comparing these babies with those who did not wheeze, the researchers found that most had been born underweight and were more likely to have one or both parents who smoked.

These babies would have had smaller lungs and narrower arteries, the researchers say, which could explain why they wheezed as infants, especially if they had a cold or chest infection, and then stopped wheezing as they got older and their lungs and airways developed normally.

However, a small proportion of children did not wheeze as babies but started to wheeze after the age of three. The researchers say these children may be at greater risk of developing asthma because they were already showing signs of allergies and eczema – linked to asthma development in older children and adults – and their parents were more likely to have asthma.

More than 250,000 people are diagnosed with asthma every year in the UK, according to the National Asthma Campaign.

my father had asthma very bad as a child, but it went away almost overnight, when he was 14, he is now late 50s and still clear.

so.. it is all in the genes i am afraid.

what is your family history??

I developed both Eczema & Asthma in adult life - the eczema began in my late teens but the asthma didn't really start until I was in my mid 30s. As I understand it, if you develop either of these conditions in infancy or childhood there is a good chance that you will "grow out of it", but if you develop them in adulthood you have a "friend" (?!!!) for life. I'd be interested to hear from others who have had a similar experience.
Best wishes to all fellow sufferers!
