Homeopathic treatment didn't help; it made the E worse. Maybe it works for some but to me homeopathy sucks!!

Hi. ribena contains a preservative called sodium metabisulphate as do most squashes. This is an ingredient that a alot of people are allergic to and is directly related to skin conditions

My 12 year old has asthma, eczema, and allergies.
They call it the trifecta. Anyway he started when he was about 5 years old and every year it's gotten worse. He is not cooperative most times ,but we finally have a routine down. Dermatologists and Allergists don't seem to offer much in the way of treatments other than steroids and hydrocortizone, but I noticed that taking a children's vitamin with fish oil, and vitamins C and E has helped some. Also, using a little neosporin or other antibiotic cream, with the vaseline seems to help also. Stay away from polyester it can also cause flare ups.
Good Luck,
Frustrated mother

PJ - Only if you have a photosensitive skin conditions may energy saving bulbs affect your skin. See the BBC website (had to remove the h.t.t.p) - news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7170246.stm

Energy saving light bulbs can also cause eczema. Something about the way they ironise the air. When I changed my bulbs mine cleared up straight away

Yes, caffine is an itching trigger. It is hard to give up, as I have done. I opted for lemon tea, which is more for the hydrating effect of the water. I seems that, while you have to research different diet types to control eczema flare-ups, drinking plenty of water has really had a positive effect for me.

I have different skin problems on different occasions because my skin is problemsome.

Here are some remedies which i found effective I hope they will help u.

When u have really dry sensitive red flaky skin rub vasiline on it gently to not irritate it this will make ur skin really soft in the morning.

once ur skin is a bit more healthier but stin kind of rashy mix a small amount of sudo cream with vasline and put it on ur face...u will know urself how sensitive ur skin is once ur skin isnt so sensitive u can put a little bit of sudo cream on without vasline but sudo cream can sting so its nice to add vasline.

As time passes ur skin will no longer be dry but u might have another problem spots at the moment i have some spots and also dry skin.

To try and remove the spots I mixed a little bit of tooth paste with a foundation and put it on my face.

Then i used a clay mask then put oil on my face.

i am also trying to drink herbal teas as i read green tea is a powerful antioxidant and i am also going to drink camomile and other herbal teas im sure they will improve my skin a bit until i buy a herbal tea that says on it good for skin.

yes, caffeine do triggers itch. this is wat is written by a bk publised in 2005,"eczema-free for life" by Adnan nasir, MD, a noted clinician and researcher of immune diseases of skin.
dis is wat written:
Caffeine helps cells release histamine, a major itch trigger, and at same time makes nerves jumpy. dis combination of histamine and receptive itch nerves creates an intensified itch sensation.
Also written:
Oolong Tea:
Drinking a litre of oolong tea consumed everyady in 3 = servings w meals effective in aiding patients w recelcitrant eczema. 1st +ve results seen after 1 mth, n was stil wking at 6 mths. no other type of tea tested.

Hav been reading a lot, there's lots of evidence n trials on oolong tea.:)

Grrr the hardest thing i have given up to clear my eczema is coffee. i used to drink like 6 cups a day i was totally addicted to it and it helped give me energy cause i diet alot. but im so glad i did it because now my skin is almost totally clear. all i do is drink hot water and the ocassional diet coke. i also take caffiene pills. im not sure if boiling water is bad for your skin, but it works for me.

Herbal tea is good for eczema. However, regular tea is not because it dehydrates and is caffinated.
Try another herbal tea with no milk or sugar.

Dear Blue
Do u use full-milk or an alternative like rice milk etc in your tea?
Or try not to drink it at all for a month or so and then see what happens when you introduce it back again. good luck - its only a suggestion!

Hi I have just read your messages and what I found is that a combination of alternative and medecine is what I needed to combat my chronic eczema that I had for 5 - 6 years. There isnt a school of thought I didnt address and nothing helped on it own. However with a specialist water that I am currently taking and the help of emmolients and cream and addressing diet in a very relaxed way, I have gone from being hospitalised last June to 80 - 90% clear. You can email if you want more info. I dont feel that it is fair to take up the message board in this way. I hope to hear from anyone soon

Leah, your experience has not been mine. i know that the doctora in my practice, and all the health professionals I have dealt with in my local skin clinic in the hospital, would care very much indeed if they killed me.
We need to be very careful of 'natural'! Dr. Michael Cork, at the NES Conference a couple of years ago, was asked a vague question about 'natural' treatments. His reply, slightly frustrated, was "Well, what's natural? There's nothing more natural than a rattlesnake bite....."
Doctors have a sadly limited armamentarium of treatments available to them, but at least these are of known efficacy and side-effects. (Sometimes, admittedly, not much efficacy, and bad side-effects). There is very little evidence for the value of juice or other 'natural' treatments in helping eczema, and untreated eczema can lead to death in certain circumstances.
Note that I am not at all against complementary medicine and have in the past for various conditions used: homoeopathy; herbal treatments; osteopathy; acupuncture; massage
Best regards,
David

Dear Stella
I am so interested in making some similar changes in my life. The doctors don't care if they kill you with the drugs they give you...they're treating my eczema and at the same time destroying my liver and major organs prescribing toxic steroids and the like. I have to take my life out of their hands and use natural remedies to control this. Please tell me how you made these changes and how they have improved your condition. Thankyou leah

Hi folks...

There is a site called Living and Raw Nutrition which is very interesting and has a discussion forum and lots of interesting info on dealing with all kinds of disease including eczema...

After trying everything I have decided to purchase a Champion juicer and go on a vegetable juice fast...including juiced alfalfa sprouts which I grow at home...

Life gets so interesting when trying to treat this condition the natural way!! For me this has meant changing career, changing friendships and loving myself a lot deeper...

If anyone is going through the same change in life through becoming more natural in the way they treat their skin, I would love to hear from you..

Love,

Stella

Can anyone confirm that when they have had recent outbreaks, that they have drunk ribena a week or a few weeks prior to the outbreak.

I would be very interested to hear any comments.
